Monday, January 1, 2018HAPPY NEW YEAR

Today was a Happy New Year for us except for the weather.  We had a lovely Dinner last night followed by “some” TV watching for the rest of the night.  But the weather turned on us yesterday.  The temps weren’t that bad in the high 50's.  But the wind actually developed a wind chill.  We’re used to wind chills with much colder temperatures, but I guess you can get them even in warmer temps.  We have to get used to the idea that this is Florida’s Winter, much like we had to get used to California’s Winter.  It took us less time to get to the warm weather, but then it reversed on us without warning.  I’m sure we’ll get through it just fine.  It’ll warm up eventually.
I had to go over to the clubhouse today to publish my Journal.  We had to increase our data when we were in Alabama with Verizon and since that time I haven’t been able to hook up my computer to the hotspot on the phone.  Sharon can still hook up her tablet but I’m SOL.  I’ll have to stop at Verizon to see if they can help me cause I can’t figure it out on my own.  I’ll get a chance maybe tomorrow when we go out for Breakfast.
We sat inside and watched TV for the afternoon since it was windy and a little chilly outside.  We also expected to see some rain today which never materialized.  We must have brought this weather with us.  It always seems to be the worst Winter ever whenever we go somewhere.
We had “giant” cheeseburgers for Supper tonight.  Sharon had a couple of Philly Steak buns leftover from a previous meal and she just filled them with an appropriate sized burger.  With a few home made fries to round out the meal it was very good indeed.
We settled into our usual TV gazing positions for the night.  Sharon had a book to distract her attention from the TV.  She likes to pretend she’s watching but she needs a distraction.  Me, I just sit and enjoy or nap to whatever is playing.  We gave up the ghost at our usual time tonight at about 10:30.

We started out with another nasty day today.  The weather is sure doing a number on us.  This morning the temperature is in the 50's and the wind is making a strong presence and the only salvation is for us to go out for Breakfast.
I’ve also found out that since I increased our data package with Verizon I haven’t been able to hook my computer up to the hotspot.  So we’ve got 6 GB of data going to waste for the time being except for what Sharon is using with her Tablet.
We took off about 9 for the Country Café in town and it wasn’t as busy as it was the other day when we were there.  We got a table right away.  We both ordered Western Omelettes and they were very good.  Sharon ordered Home Fries and I had to eat half of them.  I’m not that crazy about home fries with an omelette but I didn’t see any reason to waste them.
After Breakfast we headed over to the Verizon store to see about my connection problems.  I didn’t think I’d need the mouse and left it home.  The touchpad on my computer is disabled and doesn’t work so I guess I should have brought it along.  In any event she couldn’t help me cause she couldn’t operate the computer.  I don’t think the problem is in the computer because it hooks up nicely to the campground Wi-Fi without a problem.  I’ll have to come back with the mouse so I can get this taken care of.
Another nasty day and another afternoon of TV.  It’s a good thing we have several movies recorded on the DVR to replace actually going outside and sitting in the nice weather.  We’re on a site that provides daytime shade without the awning extended.  It’s really pretty neat.
Sharon made Stuffed Green Peppers for Supper tonight.  They were absolutely delicious, and she also prepared some steamed mixed vegetables along with them.
We had another night of TV watching but tonight the new season starts for some of our shows.  It was a pleasant night to watch TV for a change and the new season didn’t hurt either.  I was in the rack shortly after 10 hoping for an early rising tomorrow.  Sharon followed her usual 30 minutes later.

Wednesday, January 3, 2018

We woke up this morning to a cold motorhome.  It really wasn’t that bad but I always freeze in the mornings.  It’s also a cold snap that made an appearance during the night.  We’re also expecting rain sometime today which will make the weather more miserable.
Sharon whipped up some Egg McMuffins for Breakfast this morning.  They were very good and it’s been a long time since she cooked Breakfast.  I usually cook Breakfast for us and she usually declines to eat it.  She doesn’t always want a Breakfast of Eggs, Hash Browns, Bacon, Pancakes, French Toast or even Belgian Waffles, and I end up eating something myself.  I make it all, and its all very good.  My Breakfasts occur at least a couple of times a week.
The rain started about mid-morning today and came down pretty well for awhile.  We ended up with deep puddles in the streets, and along with the wind that accompanied it made for a pretty miserable morning.
We had already decided by noon that we would go to Burger King for Supper.  They have a deal that’s two Whoppers for $5 that we can’t pass up.
I also had to make another trip to Verizon today to see if I can get my computer hooked up to the hotspot on my phone.
I went into town about 3 and stopped at Verizon.  Ten minutes later I was walking out with the computer fixed.  I got home and Sharon tried to hook up her tablet and it wouldn’t work.  This is getting just a little frustrating because she’s the one whose usually on the Internet.
When I got back we took off for a ride around town.  We wanted to see what’s off the main thoroughfares looking for merchants and restaurants.  It took us about a half hour to really get a feeling of what’s out there.  By that time it was moving right up on Suppertime and time to get to Burger King.  It was quite cold inside Burger King so we kept our jackets on the entire time we were in there.  We ate our Whoppers and Fries and even had pies for dessert.
After we got back home we watched a little TV and then it was time to go and play card bingo.  It was very cold in the clubhouse also tonight.  We kept our jackets on all through bingo.  But not to be deterred, Sharon won a quarter round.  This park plays Card Bingo much different than we played in California.  The different games that we played out there are much more enjoyable.  And we usually got 50-60 players every week.
After Bingo we went back home to warm up and watch a little tube for the night.  We had a bunch of stuff recorded so we had our pick of shows to watch tonight.  We chose the Goldbergs, Jeopardy and Chicago PD.
By that time it was bumping up against my bedtime and I succumbed to the urge.  Sharon, of course, followed shortly afterward.

Thursday, January 4, 2018

We awoke to some rather cold weather again this morning.  We have things to do that were recommended by my Brother that we just can’t get around to doing with the weather not co-operating.
Sharon got busy this morning after Breakfast and gave me a good clipping.  She administered lovely haircut for me.
After lunch I called the company that installed our original satellite dome and argued with them for a refund for about a half hour.  When I got no satisfaction from them I called the dome company and told them my dilemma.  Dan Anderson told me that they would intervene into the case and see if they could help.
I finished up the Newsletter this afternoon and got it ready to send out.  Since I reset my computer it deleted all my email addresses.  So I’ve been working to get them restored also.  I think I got them all back thanks to my son, Sean.
For Supper tonight we both had leftovers.  I had the Stuffed Green Peppers from a couple of days ago and Sharon had my leftover Rib Eye from New Year’s Eve.  We were both happy with what we ate.  Sharon never complains about steak, leftover or fresh.
We settled in for a long night of TV watching since the shows from Bingo night were still on the DVR waiting to be watched.  We didn’t get through them all before bedtime, but we certainly made a good dent in them.  We’ll still have a few to carry us through tomorrow.
I’ve gotten used to going to bed before all our shows have played at night.  Eastern Standard Time does not agree with me so I just try to ignore it and go to bed.

Friday, January 5, 2018

We woke up again today to another nasty day.  It’s nasty and cold according to Florida’s standards but we’ve certainly seen worse than this.  It was worse than this before we left home this year.  As bad as it is here, it’s worse where Dennie And Drema, Sharon’s Brother, are in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
After we got our feet on the ground this morning we left for town having to run a couple of errands including having to shop for tonight’s Supper.  We also had to stop at Walgreen’s to pick up some probiotics for me and Vitamin D3 for Sharon.  It’s a shame that besides regular medications we have to take supplementals also.  Sharon’s was a prescription that she takes that actually costs less than OTC.  So we just dropped it off and we’ll pick it up tomorrow or the next day.
I haven’t been able to mail out the Newsletter for those people who aren’t online because I don’t have mailing labels.  I’ll get them tomorrow when we go sightseeing and mail them out shortly afterward.
While shopping today we picked up the fixin’s for Crab Cakes along with Lobster Bisque, Stuffed Scallops and Parmesan, Garlic Mashed Potatoes.  Everything was just scrumptious.  We even had a couple of Chocolate Chip Cookies for dessert.
We settled in front of the Television for the night.  We had so much stuff on the DVR that we knew we’d never get through it tonight.  By going to bed by 10:30 our last program that starts at 10 remains on the DVR until the next day.  And if it’s not a really good show it stays on there a lot longer.  But we eventually get to them all after a while.
We actually stayed up a little later than usual tonight before we called it a day.

We had a plan today before we even got up this morning.  We would be going to Lake Placid, the town of murals, for the day.
We ate a quick Breakfast and then got on the road for Lake Placid.  We knew we had to get there before 1 PM cause that’s when the Chamber of Commerce Office closes on Saturday.  We got there in plenty of time to pick up a book, that describes the Murals, and the movie which describes how the murals came about.
By the time we started out it was a nice partly cloudy day, and we were hoping our pictures would turn out.  But as always, sometimes you can’t get the perfect day for sightseeing.
But we started out and it wasn’t too long before it started taking a toll on my back.  Getting in and out of the car was a killer.  The murals are all in about 5 blocks of each other, and some even two or three to a block.  There was no way, however, I could walk that distance.  So we started out with the car and getting in and out was pretty taxing on the back.
Our first experience with Murals was in 29 Palms, California and these were just as impressive.  Some of them were well over 100 feet wide.  My only criticism would be that a few were painted in narrow building openings where you really can’t visualize the whole thing at one time.
We did have a good time seeing the Murals that we saw.  We didn’t get to see them all, but we plan to go back and see the rest on another day.  Lake Placid is a tourist town with plenty of shops and other things to do.
Sharon asked while she was in a store about restaurants in the area.  They weren’t too helpful, and a trip through town yielded nothing.  She did get vague directions for a Mexican Restaurant that used to be the old golf course diner.  And we did manage to find the Casa Tequila Restaurant where we had a very good meal.
On the way home we stopped at Wal-Mart in Arcadia so I could pick up mailing labels for the Newsletters.  It was a quick stop and we were home in about 10 minutes.
Neither of us was hungry for Supper so we just settled in front of the TV for the night.  Me with the remote and Sharon with her book.  That seems to be the norm this year, even though she has her own remote.

Sunday, January 7, 2018

I was up and off to my Sunday morning political shows and lo and behold Sharon was with me this morning.  She had already been to church yesterday afternoon on the Sabbath.
After my morning shows were over with, it was time for Football.  The NFL playoffs are starting this weekend.  I think it’s Wildcard Weekend in fact.  The only game I was mildly interested in, was the late game this afternoon.  The Panthers and Saints.  I wanted the Saints to win.  I don’t know why, but I think that Cam Newton is so arrogant.
We actually watched other things from the DVR all afternoon until the Panther/Saint game came on.  I took a little time off from the game to go out and dump the holding tanks.  After I got done with the tanks I was sitting outside for awhile and Dave from next door stopped over.  We sat and talked for about a half hour while Sharon was cooking on the grill.
We ran out of propane this morning before we got up and Sharon turned on the heat pump in the air conditioner.  It doesn’t work as good as the furnace but it’s better than nothing at all.  It also seems to cycle more than the furnace also.  So she was also forced to cook our supper on the grill today.
My wish came true this afternoon when the Panthers lost to the Saints.  I didn’t shed any tears or even feel bad for them.
We had Fried Chicken Strips and sliced Potatoes and Peas for Supper tonight.  Sharon did a wonderful job cooking it all on the grill and it turned out very well.
We settled in tonight in front of the Telly with a ton of stuff to watch from the DVR.  It was recording as we watched other taped programs.
I went to bed at my usual time and Sharon followed shortly after.  Tonight I was still awake when she got in bed.
