I’ll be publishing the first week of the Journal today. It usually takes me a while to get it up and running again. This morning I didn’t have any problem. Everything worked the first time.
After showers, we took off for town with the first stop at the Arley Coffee Shop. We had such a good and reasonably priced meal the other day, we decided to go back again this morning.
We were on our way to the Lewis Smith Dam this morning. We had never been there before, and it’s the dam that created this huge lake that our campground is on. Because of the huge hills and galleys in this area, the dam created a large finger-lake region in this area. The dam itself is located near Curry, Alabama. I was surprised to find that the dam was an earthen structure. We spent a little time and got some pictures and then moved on.
We stopped and did a little grocery shopping before we got back on the road again. I sat in the car and listened to Rush while she shopped. We checked out a little Thrift Shop also except that they were closed.
On our way home we went past the Arley Coffee Shop again and the parking lot was overflowing. It was definitely time for their lunch special. It’s amazing the size of the crowd they draw. But I guess that’s the reason they’re still open.
We came back home and watched TV for the rest of the day and night. We’re still watching Digital TV but we hope to rectify that tomorrow afternoon. But there’s rain in the forecast so we’ll have to see.
I went to the rack at 10:30 while Sharon stayed up and played games for awhile before caving for the night.

We awoke to rain this morning and were hoping the satellite guy will still be here this afternoon.
With the rain we really didn’t have much we could do except just sit around and watch TV and listen to Rush. I’ve had withdrawal symptoms from not being able to listen to Rush during the daytime. Our radio station has discontinued broadcasting the show so I haven’t listened to it since a year ago. So the only time I get it is when we’re gone for the Winter.
It rained for most of the day today. It started out just drizzling this morning and then turned into a full fledged storm by the afternoon. No Lightning or Thunder but plenty of water falling from the sky.
The satellite guy called this afternoon and wanted to reschedule for tomorrow. Since we had nothing planned for tomorrow the reschedule was fine with us.
Even watching TV wasn’t that pleasurable today. The rain made so much noise on the roof it was hard to hear the sound. But we managed to tough-it-out.
We had Meatloaf, Fried Potatoes and Peas for Supper tonight. It all went down very good. We even had some mini TastyCake Donuts for Dessert. The flavors were Caramel Apple and Pumpkin Spice. Yumm.
We settled in front of the TV tonight and watched some of our regular shows. We were receiving CBS on our digital antenna, and that’s the network we watch on Tuesdays.
I stayed up again til after the news and Sharon held out for her usual 30 minutes later. Aside from the all-day rain this was a fine day.

We awoke to overcast skies this morning but at least it wasn’t raining. We had a message that the satellite guy wasn’t coming today but he’ll be here “sometime” tomorrow.
Sharon took off bright and early with the laundry, and I got on the phone with the satellite guy. It seems the message was left yesterday and he’ll still be here today around 2 o’clock. I was worried that he’d be here before Sharon got back from doing the laundry.
Sharon stopped by and had lunch and that’s when I told her about the message. I told her I didn’t have any money in case he stopped over before she got back again.
He showed up about 2:30 and Sharon was done and back by then.
We didn’t get the news we were hoping to hear about the Dome. Apparently it was installed wrong and all the electronic components on the inside are rusted. They covered up the weep holes with sealer and the moisture had no place to escape to. Consequently it stayed inside the Dome and rusted everything. It’s only 8 months old but we’ll need a new satellite antenna.
So now we’ve got another fight to get the cost of the Dome re-imbursed. I guess we’ll just have to get used to watching digital TV for the next few days.
I flew off for the next at 10 tonight while Sharon stayed for her usual 30 minutes before giving up for the night.
Thursday, December 7, 2017 HAPPY ANNIVERSARY SHARON (43)
We headed out for Breakfast today at the Arley Coffee Shop and just like always we were the only ones there. After Breakfast we came back home and just sat for a couple of hours. I slept in my recliner since I was having trouble with my “dry eye” on the right side. I napped up until about 3 when we left to go and do some shopping.
We also planned to go out for Dinner at Applebee’s tonight for our anniversary. Sharon saw the Applebee’s the other day when we were in town at Captain D’s.
We stopped at Wal-Mart for our shopping and picked up food for the rest of the week.
After we left Wal-Mart we searched for the Applebee’s to no avail. Apparently they moved the one Sharon saw the other day. We had to settle for Cracker Barrel for our Anniversary Dinner. It was still just as good but we were set on Applebee’s.
By the time we started back home it was dark outside and we chose to take a short cut on the way. Unfortunately we managed to get to the end of a road and had to turn around and backtrack. Our GPS told us to take that road on the way into town. Maybe we’ll try it again in the light of day.
We got back home and I napped until it was time to go to bed tonight. There was really nothing on TV tonight anyway. By 10:30 I was gone and Sharon stayed up her usual half hour.

We were up this morning with nothing to do but watch TV. It was amazing how paralyzed the entire City of Birmingham was by the little bit of snow that was coming down. They received about 4 inches in some places that closed almost everything. There was a banner that ran across the Tv screen all day, that announced the closings for the day. It was quite the array of organizations and schools and clubs that gave up today. We got a trace of snow here but it melted as soon as it hit the ground.
We had to take the motorhome into town today to get LP gas. It was questionable as to whether we could make it to Tuesday with the gas we had. They only put 12 gallons in and I think we could have made it but we didn’t want to take the chance. It only took us a few minutes to set back up since we left our cords and hoses just lay where they were.
We spent the rest of the day just sitting inside and watching TV. The TV was entertaining since the news people were all talking about the snow that was falling. One girl even had a pair of amber tinted ski goggles she was wearing. My God the things you see when you’re down here.
Sharon whipped up some Shrimp Creole for Supper tonight and it was very good. It’s one of my favorites. Sharon prefers Shrimp Etoufee’ and we usually see it right after the Creole.
We’re still watching Digital TV until we can get our Dome replaced for the satellite signal. We’re hoping to have it done by Monday before we leave on Tuesday.
I left for bed about 10 tonight. I didn’t feel too well and I didn’t get any better during the night. Hopefully I’ll be feeling good in the morning.

I woke up this morning and was really under the weather. I spent most of early this morning trying to decided whether I should get up, and throw up, or stay in bed and tough it out. I stayed in bed awake and now I think that might have been the worst decision. I was sick all day today.
We fired up the TV and sat and watched that all day today. The weather wasn’t really that nice today anyway so we weren’t missing much. The snow that fell yesterday was all gone today. It was expected to not last very long once it started to warm up.
They’ve got a Digital TV channel down here called Grit TV. They play Westerns all day long and half the night. I’ve seen at least 3 with Randolph Scott from the 50's. But not be outdone, the old cowboys are all making an appearance. We are also managing to get all of our networks though, so we’re not missing any of our regular programs.
Sharon whipped up some Fried Meatloaf Sandwiches for Supper tonight. We had some Chips and Bread and Butter Pickles to finish it off. It was quite good indeed.
We had a lousy night for TV tonight. It was a typical Saturday night with repeats and shows not worth watching. I went to bed tonight at 9:30 since I still wasn’t feeling that good and there was nothing to watch.
Sunday, December 10, 2017
I woke up late this morning. It was 45 minutes after Sharon left for church at 9 o’clock. I was feeling better than I had yesterday morning, but still not feeling good. As the day wore on, however, I was getting better and better. By noon I was feeling pretty good.
I managed to find one of my Sunday morning shows today and it happened to be Fox News Sunday. If I had to pick one show to watch that would have been the one. There hadn’t been anything earthshaking happen this week except for Trump moving our embassy to Jerusalem.
The Packers were playing the Cleveland Browns today and were not expecting to see the game. And actually they showed the last couple of minutes of the game and the whole overtime which they won. We were pleasantly surprised. They’re pretty much out of the running for any play-off spot but it was nice to see their effort rewarded. They can play the role of spoiler for the rest of the season.
We had BBQued Chicken Legs for Supper tonight. Sharon also made Potato Salad. It was like having a summer picnic. The Chicken Legs were delish.
We managed to see our regular shows on CBS tonight even though they were cutting out intermittently. The reception for the digital antenna is not that good here and also the phone service is questionable at best. Our old Flip-Phone works much better than the iphone.
We finished up our TV watching tonight and headed off to bed for the night. Tomorrow we should be back to our regular schedule again with satellite TV again. We were told that he would be here early tomorrow morning..
