We were rolling this morning to the Foley Coffee Shop to see if that was going to be our long-term Breakfast spot.  We got a leisurely start and left home about 10.
The Coffee Shop was just a little hole-in-the-wall with very good food.  The food was moderately pricey, but not expensive.  We both had the “Lily” omelette which wasn’t expensive at $5.95, but the Hash Browns were ala carte (.75)  and the coffee was $1.74 which brought the bill up to $18 plus tip.
We had to stop at Wal-Mart on the way home to pick up a few things.  I couldn’t find a scooter in the store so I waited out in the car for Sharon until she got what she needed.
Later this afternoon Corky had his Carving Class and I went with him for a couple of hours.  The lady teaching the class works in Bas Relief and I am actually more interested in carving caricatures.  She did that at one time but over the years her hands got too shaky to continue.
When I left the carving class I went over to the campground computer guru to see if he could format my Hard Drive.  I’ll deliver the computer tomorrow in the AM.
The rest of the day and night was devoted to the almighty Boob Tube.  We hung in there until about 11 before we surrendered to the night.

We awoke this morning to weather that is colder than a witch’s thorax.
Sharon suggested that we have French Toast this morning and who was I to object.  She had a loaf of Texas Toast just waiting to make itself useful.  She fried up some bacon to go with it and it was quite good indeed.
After Breakfast Corky stopped over and asked us if we needed anything in town or if we wanted to go for a ride.  Nothing really came to mind, but we asked him if they might want to go to the theater this afternoon.  He didn’t say anything one way or the other so we just assumed they probably weren’t interested.
Around noon Corky called and asked if we wanted to out for lunch today at Mykees.  We didn’t want to overlap our theater time and we hadn’t planned on eating lunch because of a Big Breakfast, so we declined.
At 1:30 we took off for the Theater to see “Grudge Match” and we enjoyed it thoroughly.  It was about two old fighters who finally got together to fight the fight that should have happened 30 years earlier.  It was good entertainment for two hours.
We came back home afterward and had Pasties for Supper.  They were leftover from last week but still very good.
Tonight we had a full night of original programming on the tube.  We even had taped stuff that was leftover for leisurely watching tomorrow or the next day.  We gave up the Ghost about 11.

We had a full day ahead of us today.  We were up and Breakfasted early.
The office called this morning informing me that I had a perishable package at the office din the refrigerator.  I went to the office to pick it up knowing it was Insulin but I wanted to make sure it hadn’t frozen in this cold weather.  It was clear and seemed to be just fine.
Ken Brumbalaugh, who took my computer, called while I was in the shower and Sharon told him I would pick up the computer in a half hour.  I had barely enough time to get ready and I still had to pick up the computer.
Ken is a “talker” so it took me more time than I expected to pick up the computer.  We were supposed to leave for the Road Kill Café in Elberta at 10:45 and it was already 10:55 so they were waiting for me when I came out of Ken’s Trailer.  It would be about a 20 minute drive and it always a good thing to get to the café early.  We made it just in time to get the last table.  It’s important to get a table cause you never know when they are going to close.  When they run out of food, they’re closed.  Today they ran out of food at 12:30.  This is an anomaly we’ve never seen before.  The food was a buffet and very good, hot and fresh.  We went with the Zimmermanns and another couple from Wisconsin.
We stopped at Wal-Mart on our way through Foley on the way home, and picked up a couple of things.
We would sit around and rest our lunch for the afternoon until it was time for Trivia at the Elks Club.  We left for there about 5:30 and this time I was on time to leave.  We were at the Elks til about 9 before we came home.  We didn’t win.  I don’t think we even came close, but Sharon and I, Corky, Deb and Terry and Mort and Joanne had a good time anyway.
We had time for a little TV before we called it a day and headed to the padded room for the night.

The sun was out this morning when we got up and it was very bright inside the coach.  Apparently the temperature was also very desirable cause shortly after opening our shades we saw Corky outside carving already.  Our water hose had defrosted during the night, but for awhile this morning, the water was shut off and everybody around us were asking if we had water. Today seemed like a very good day to go to Applebee’s and have lunch.  We had talked about it yesterday but Sharon didn’t know if I was serious or not.  Well I was semi-serious but now I was talking food.  I stopped over at Corky and Deb’s to see if they were interested, but they were pacing themselves for tomorrow.
Sharon and I left for Applebee’s about 12:30 and when we arrived the parking lot  seemed relatively empty.  We were surprised at the number of people in the restaurant after commenting on the parking lot.  It was crowded and quite busy.  We had a gift card from our daughter Jennifer and her husband Tom that we received for Christmas.  It was nice because sometimes we get stuck in areas where a gift card is difficult to use.  Sharon ordered a Steak and I had Pork Ribs and they were both very good.   We had onion rings for the appetizer on the 2 for $20 menu. It was all very good.
After we got home, “Mrs. Ambitious” took off with the laundry for the week and I just settled into my recliner to rest my lunch.  My eyes must have slammed shut for a period of time cause Sharon woke me up when she opened the door with a completed basket of clothes.
Needless to say, neither of us would be eating Supper tonight.  But I’m sure we’ll be snacking later on.  You can’t hold us down when it comes to eating.
We camped out in our favorite positions in front of the tube for the night and certainly had enough to watch even though Sharon to an early leave to read a book in bed.  I don’t know how much she read, but by the time I got there it was quite dark to say the least.  That was about 10:45.

We had another plan for today and that was to drive to Pensacola and go to the National Naval and Aviation Museum.  We had been there several years ago when they only had one building and today they have at least three.
We ate Breakfast and then got on the road about 9:30 and it took us about a half hour, or so, to get there.  We spent about three hours in the museum and even went for a ride in the “Blue Angels Flight Simulator” with Corky.  The girls weren’t interested so they sat outside and watched the simulator roll around for 5 minutes.  Later in the visit we found a much better simulator but since we had already paid 6 bucks for the first one, we opted out.  We had a good time at the museum but after about 2 hours all the planes start to look the same.
After the museum we went to lunch to McGuire’s Irish Pub with a group of about 15 people.  We knew very few people in the group but we had a good time anyway.  The restaurant has been seen on The Food Network which is one of our favorite things in a restaurant.  We’ve been to about a half dozen of them in our travels, and they all have very good food and are almost always unusual in some way.  This one was no different in that it reminded us of Wall Drug in South Dakota.  It seems like a bunch of side by side buildings that were connected by doorways into each other.  The highlight of the restaurant stop was Corky ordering the “garbage burger.”  It had everything on it, including the kitchen sink, and topped off by a scoop of ice cream and a cherry.  It was something to behold and it must have stood almost a foot high.
On the way home we took a different route than we had driven on the way over to Pensacola.  We were about 5 miles further north and on the same highway that we were on to get to the Roadkill Café the other day.
This was the first day that I really got to use my scooter and it worked out beautifully.  I got to see the whole museum today without having to sit down every 10 minutes.
We got home about suppertime but neither of us was planning on a meal tonight.  We’ll both snack on something tonight when we feel a little empty in the stomach.  But it won’t be something that Sharon has to cook.
We settled in for our usual entertainment tonight even though there was Karaoke at the clubhouse tonight.  We were both too tired to do anything that required any effort.  But we were up until 11 before we called it quits for the night.

It was Sausage and Pancake Breakfast Day at the clubhouse this morning and we were not going to miss it.  Although 8:30 in the morning for Breakfast is quite early for us, we were ready and willing and picked up Corky and Deb right on time, even though it was raining “cats and dogs” since we got up.  The four of us got soaked on our way to the clubhouse even though Sharon dropped us off at the door. $3 apiece and all you can eat.
The Breakfast, however, was very good and ready when we got there.  We had no trouble eating our fill while we were there.  Even though it was raining so hard the clubhouse was full of folks eating the Breakfast.
Speaking of raining, it happens a lot here, and the ground is so poor it never dries up between storms.  The concrete pads for the sites are only big enough to drive onto, and so you continually walk on the spongy ground off the pads.  It was still raining bucketfuls by the time we got home and made the dash for dry quarters.
After Breakfast the food must have gone right to my eyes because I sat down in my recliner and lost consciousness for about 90 minutes.  It didn’t seem like such a bad idea since there didn’t appear to be any letup for the rain.  But around noon the rain did let up and the sun came out and it turned into a beautiful day except for the sloshy ground.  Sharon even tried for a time to go out and sit in the sun and read.
We had Chicken Alfredo for Supper tonight along with a lettuce salad and Broccoli.  The Alfredo sauce was a little flat-tasting but it was still quite good.  We probably should have added a little salt and pepper to our serving which may have let it taste a little better.
This was going to be another TV night with not much on but we decided to watch “Gran Turino” which we had on tape.  That took us right up to our bewitching hour and about 11 o’clock.

Sunday, January 12, 2014

All indications were that today was going to be a good day.  Right from the start, the sun was out, it was already warm, and there was no rain predicted.
Sharon was off to church and I was engrossed in my Sunday political shows, until I got tired of them all cutting Kris Kristie to shreds for something he apparently didn’t do.  The liberal press sharks are smelling blood in the water.  I don’t even like Kristie but it was disgusting to see them press the issue of the GW bridge closing without any evidence.  It’s a shame that they didn’t do their job for real scandals in the Obama Administration.  I turned the shows off one right after the other when I had had enough.
There were two playoff games on TV today but we didn’t have any interest in either of them.  Since our team lost to the 49ers we feel that our season is really over.  There wasn’t much else on today so we ended up on the games every once in a while.
Corky and Deb stopped over today and sat and talked for an hour or so and asked us if we were interested in going to Tequila’s tonight for supper.  Tequila’s is a mexican restaurant that serves “all the tacos you can eat” for $5.50 on Sunday nights.  This was a place that we just had to see.
They picked us up about 4:45 and we headed out to the restaurant.  There were a couple of other people there that Corky and Deb recognized as being from the campground.  The food was about like we make for ourselves at home and it was all you can eat.  It was quite good and I’m sure we’ll be back here again.
By the time we got home it was time for 60 minutes on TV and we settled right in to give it a watch.  We surfed for most of the rest of the night until the Mentalist came on.   We watched that, and then we were only biding our time til we finally meandered into the bedroom for the night.
