We were up early and showered this morning and heading out for Breakfast at the Waffle House. We had eaten there several years ago, a couple of times, while we were traveling the Natchez Trace Parkway. We liked the food then but we’ve never had a chance to go back again.
Sharon called the doctor before we left and managed to get an appointment at 10:45 this morning. It was going to be a nice day today for all we knew so we were both in shorts for the day. The first time this has happened since we left this winter. We’ve both had shorts on at different times, but never together.
We enjoyed the food at the Waffle House and it was quite reasonable on price. We got away for just over $14 and we both had coffee at $1.60. We may have found “the” place to go for Breakfast, although Hazel’s buffet is a very nice price indeed.
After Breakfast we headed off to the doctor and couldn’t find it, so Sharon called them and found out they moved recently. We got directions and were there in just a few minutes. It took a while to get taken care of, but we were just glad they could squeeze her in this morning.
It was after lunch by the time we got finished there so we decided to go to Chick-fil-A for lunch. We had never been to this fast food before, but as I was parked at the doctor a Chick-fil-A catering van drove up and delivered food for the doctor’s office. That looked pretty good for lunch. We both had a Chicken Deluxe Combo and it was quite good with waffle fries.
After lunch we headed back home and as we got outside the gate I remembered that I told Corky I was going to carving class with him. There was going to be a caricature carver there today. I was late but I got my scooter fired up and made it over there as soon as I got back. He seemed to be very good and knowledgeable about his craft. I was observing for at least 90 minutes before I decided to head home again.
It was almost time for Supper by the time I got back but neither of us was very hungry having eaten twice already today. But later I did manage to find room for a couple of pieces of leftover pizza from last night. I don’t know if Sharon finally ate anything or not.
We were ensconced in our usual locations for the rest of the night to watch the Olympics. There were some winners but there were more “losers” tonight than expected. Unfortunately we suffered the losses along with the athletes. We made it to the end of the show again tonight at 10:30 and then headed off to the bliss of slumber.

Today was going to be a rainy day, all day. I know this because God was dumping tons of water on us and he’s been doing it since last night. It doesn’t appear to be letting up anytime soon.
We will be staying close to home today since we don’t want to float away and end up in the Gulf of Mexico.
We were fielding phone calls today from our friends out west asking us politely about the weather, and to see if we were okay. We’re not stupid, and we knew the phone calls were sarcasm, but we played along anyway, like it was no big deal. It was actually great to hear from them and bring us up to date on stuff.
The forecast is for the weather to be sunny and in the 60's for the rest of the week, but I’ll believe that when I actually see it, right after it stops raining.
This was going to be a full-on video editing day. Since I got my computer and my video editing program going, I’ve spent several hours a day working on our tapes.
The nice thing is that I can play the recorded video from the Olympics and edit at the same time. I can kill two birds with one stone.
It kept on raining pretty much all day today without a let-up. Sharon knitted and I edited.
By the time Supper rolled around Sharon whipped up some Pigs in a Blanket and Baked Beans. We usually have Kraft Dinner with the pigs but she searched and couldn’t find a box. Oh well, it was very good anyway.
After Dinner we settled in front of the tube for an evening of Olympic entertainment. The disappointments for American athletes continued tonight, along with a couple of successes. We were glued to the set tonight until 11 before we turned out the lights and gave up for the night.

It was raining again this morning but we’re getting used to it by now.
We had a full day ahead of us today even though it was going to be a busy one. We needed to do some shopping at Wal-Mart for a few essential items. I managed to find the last scooter in the store but it was on it’s last legs when I got it. But It made it all the way through our shopping and then we were off to Lambert’s Café for lunch.
Lambert’s is the “home of the throwed rolls.” While you sit and dine there are waiters coming out of the kitchen with oven mitts and hot rolls on a cart, still in the pans. You put up your hand and they whip them to you from wherever they are in the restaurant. There are people who make catches that would be applauded on any football team. Lambert’s is simply a hoot of a place to eat. We managed to bring our entree’ (chicken wings) home to have with our pilfered Fried Potatoes to have for another meal. We filled up on the “pass-arounds” and the hot rolls, like we always do. The pass-arounds include Fried Okra, Fried Potatoes, Black-eyed Peas, Cooked Cabbage and our personal favorite, the Tomatoes and Macaroni.
By the time we got home our stomachs were full and it was going to our eyes. I sat in my recliner and the inevitable happened. I fell asleep while pretending to watch our taped Olympics. Sharon finally went into the bedroom but she claims she didn’t sleep. The shape of her hair may have given her away, however.
In any event we got up in time to pick up Corky and Deb for trivia tonight at the Elks. I think we had eleven of us sitting in our team group tonight. I guess by the time it was all said and done, we came in second tonight. We were on a roll early but then we folded for a couple of questions in the middle. One of these nights they’ll ask only the questions we can answer.
By the time we got home it was around 10 but I still needed to watch some TV before bed. We stayed up til around 11 and then called it a night.

When I got up this morning the sun was actually out and expected to be out all day today. It was even supposed to warm up some and be a nice day. But I now know that the people here have a different expectation than I do of a nice day. And I have resigned myself to the fact that the weather here actually stinks, and I can’t do a damn thing about it. Somehow the earthquakes in California don’t seem so bad anymore.
At this point I care less about the weather than I did two months ago. My computer is fixed and I can upload video to edit. I spent most of the last week cutting and pasting and transitioning and was happy to do it. I am now thankful that I had the foresight to bring all my old SVHS videos along this year. I’m finally getting something done while I’m on winter solstice. The weather is too crappy to go outside but I’m happy to be couped up indoors.
Lunch was a particular treat today. Sharon heated up the Chicken Wings and Fried Potatoes that we took home from Lambert’s Café the other day and we had a lovely feast. The rest of the afternoon was filled with Olympics that were taped last night after we went to bed, and of course, the editing of video.
By Suppertime we were headed out for the American Legion Hall for our weekly fish fry. It’s hard getting used to going out for fish on Thursday instead of Friday. But there certainly isn’t any problem with the quality of the meals we get. The Legion has a different agenda, besides fish, for Fridays.
Our evening tonight was filled with Olympics since there was nothing but reruns on the other network channels. We had it on tape tonight so we could zip through the commercials. So we covered about 4 hours in about 2½. We still stayed up until 11 before folding up our tents.

The sun was out this morning even though it was still a little chilly. We were off to Hazel’s this morning for the buffet Breakfast. We knew that the cashier, the old fart at the cash register, would round our bill up to the nearest nickel and when our bill came to $17.36 sure enough he pilfered the extra 4 cents. It irritates the hell out of me so I think we’ll show up with the exact change next time. The food is really good though so I would hate to stop going there.
After getting back home I relaxed in my recliner until Sharon asked me to help her carry the laundry over to the laundry room. I made it halfway across the street before my leg wouldn’t let me go any further. She left me in the middle of the road and it was a good thing she did. While I was standing there waiting to recover another lady came by me with her load of laundry. A couple of minutes later she came back past again dejected that Sharon had beat her to the machines.
I spent the rest of the afternoon editing and watching taped Olympics in the background. I managed to finish up the “length edits” this afternoon and quickly started in for the effects I was going to insert. I had cut 2½ hours into a little over an hour and a half.
Sharon cooked up Spaghetti and Meatballs with Garlic Bread and a Salad for supper tonight. It was quite delicious indeed.
We settled in after Supper for a night of Olympics. There’s not much happening in this house except Olympics until after the games are over. We stayed up until 11 tonight after we watched an hour of taped TV. I have to have an injection of regular TV before I go to bed.

I got up early this morning to watch the USA/Russia hockey game on the Canadian sports network. It was a smasher of a game that went into overtime at 2 and 2, and then on to a shootout. After 8 full rounds and 16 shots on goal T.J. Oshie finally drove the winning shot past the Russian goalie. We watched the replay for most of the day today as NBC not to be outdone showed it a dozen times.
Sharon went for a walk this morning and stopped by the office to pick up our mail and I got a response to a letter I sent to the Montgomery Library asking if they could locate the former Gunter Air Force Base and highlight it on a map for me. The lady who responded said there was nothing left of the base and sent my 10 dollar bill back to me. I already knew that the base had pretty much been disassembled but I wanted to know where it was located so I could just drive through there and see it.
I sat home and Sharon decided that she was going to browse around at a couple of stores today. She was back in a couple of hours not really having found anything to buy.
I worked on my video for most of the day today. I finished up editing and started working on the menus and links. I managed to get them done this afternoon and now I only have the maps and music to add and I’ll be done with the first one. I actually made up the label for the DVD also today. I’ll wait until I print the Newsletter, however, before I print up the label for the DVD.
I was pretty much consumed with Olympics this afternoon along with tonight but I also had to watch some regular TV before I headed off to bed.
Sharon decided she wasn’t cooking tonight since we had enough leftover
Spaghetti and Meatballs to make a supper for the both of us.
We camped out in front of the TV for the night and watched Olympics almost until it was time to go to bed. We caved about 11 and called it a night.

We were both up early this morning and we caught the hockey game between the US and Slovenia. The US had their way with them early and finally won 4-1. We also saw the US/Russia highlights again as NBC was still playing them on every update. I hope we’re not going to be disappointed with the final outcome of who gets the medals.
Sharon was off to church this morning and I forgot to watch my usual Sunday shows today. Sharon got back from church and a quick stop at Wal-Mart for a few things, around noon and we ate lunch and then went outside to join Corky and Deb who were sitting out in the sun today. We stayed out there until about three when the wind started to come up and it started to get chilly.
The four of us had already planned to go to Cici’s Pizza tonight and we left around 4. The place wasn’t really that busy when we got there but the pizza was very good along with the garlic knots and the cinnamon rolls. The Garlic Knots just drip with butter and garlic and the cinnamon rolls are just too decadent with the powdered sugar glaze.
We got back home and assumed our usual positions in front of the idiot box for the night. We hung in there until the coverage ended at 10:30 and then watched a little regular TV before we folded our tents and headed to the sack.
