Monday, April 15, 2013TAX DAY

We were in for quite the windy day today.  It was blowing quite hard all last night and is expected to continue through today.
On the way over to my first doctor’s appointment (Dr. Seema Bir) we could see the result of the wind with the air being filled with dust and sand.  The whole valley is in for a cleanup with the amount of sand on the roads.  It’s not like a snowfall because this stuff doesn’t go anywhere, it has to be cleaned up.
My appointment with Dr. Bir was to complete a Medicare wellness survey.  Boy do they have the wrong guy.  It only took about 15 minutes to complete that and we were on our way again.  We had at least an hour before my second appointment with Dr. Gauto.  We were hoping that he would release me todayut instead he debrided all the scabs that were healing so nicely.  If I would have known, I could have saved him the trouble by doing them myself.  After leaving there we were in for another week here.  The weather is very nice but the wind is atrocious.
After we left the doctor’s we headed toward Olive Garden to have lunch.  We had originally planned to have the “two for $12", but I changed my mind and opted for the “soup and salad”(and breadsticks) instead.  We had a delicious lunch together.
We had planned on going to Palm Springs today to take some pictures of the 40' Marilyn Monroe and the downtown but it was so windy and dusty we decided to do it another day.  We’ll be here another week so we don’t have to do it today.
We came back home and just watched the Telly for the rest of the day and night.  I’m amazed that here in the resort the wind doesn’t seem to be bothering the dish at all.  With this wind, if we were at Catalina we couldn’t watch TV except on the cable.

We were off this morning to the “Cottage Too” for Breakfast.  They have a nice little special that we both like to eat.  This morning Sharon opted for a Breakfast Sandwich and fruit.  I ate the Special and it was good like always.
On the way home we stopped at K-Mart to see if they had my shorts in any other colors.  We found a couple of pairs and picked them up.  The wind was howling all the way home.
We were quite surprised to see the lack of sand in the streets of Desert Hot Springs with all the wind we’ve had over the past few days.  On this side of the highway there are major road closures and have been over the last couple of days.  Gene Autry Trail and Indian Canyon come immediately to mind.
Henrietta came this afternoon and she was accompanied by Kevin Woo who also works at Royale Healthcare.  She must be training him to take over for her on occasion.  I know she’s tried with a couple of other people that didn’t work out.  Kevin had been here before, by himself, to fill out an evaluation for my treatment.
The wind kept blowing again today with the expectation that it is going to stop  tonight around 8.  It won’t, cause they can never predict the wind around here.
For supper tonight we ate the second half of Sharon’s “buy one take one” from Olive Garden for $12.95.  I think it was Chicken Marsala and she even had a couple Ravioli left over from her Dinner.
We settled in front of the TV for the night and we had enough to watch to get us to Craig Ferguson for a few minutes before we went to bed.  The wind that was supposed to die down, didn’t, and it’s still blowing 40-50 miles per hour.  We’re getting sick of just sitting around because of the wind.

We were planning on going to La Tablita Restaurant for lunch today.  They have a buffet that a group tried to access when I was in the Rehab Center.  They arrived too late to take advantage of it so they had to order off the menu.  But they had no complaints about the quality of the food.
Sharon called the restaurant and found out that the serving of the buffet starts at 11 and goes til 3.  When we got there, at 11, we found out that the buffet starts at 11:30, so we sat eating chips and salsa until the buffet opened.  The food was very good but the amount of selection was not really that great.  We had no complaints about the food however.  The price was $7.95 but we got a huge glass of iced tea that was included in the price, that would probably sell for $2.  So the price of the buffet was reasonable.
We got back home thinking that Henrietta would be coming early today, but no.  She called and said that she was running behind schedule having had problems with previous patients.  Her visit here would be delayed by 90 minutes.
Sharon decided that she was going to do some cleaning up on the patio today.  The wind has been blowing for so many days and it’s been bringing dust and sand with it.  The dust is laying on everything and everywhere.  She was out there with the hose spraying everything that could be hosed down.
By the time Henrietta arrived, Sharon was done outside.  She was done changing my dressings in about 20 minutes.  She could actually cover my wounds with bad-aids now but she wouldn’t get paid for that.  So I hope by Monday I get released by the doctor.  We thought last week I would be released, but he debrided all the scabs on my foot and I left there bleeding.
We got food from Del Taco tonight to finish off our “Mexican day.”  I got a Beef Burrito and Sharon got a Taco Bowl.  Afterwards we camped out in front of the TV and settled in for the rest of the night.  We had enough on tonight to carry us right up to 10 PM.

We were off this morning to the Sunshine Café for Breakfast again.  I’m trying to catch up on all the meals that I missed out on with my 64 day stay in the medical facilities.  I know it’ll never happen but Sharon is cooperating by just going along.  And besides were going to the places that she likes also.  The Sunshine Café actually caters to all the gays in the valley.  They even publish the gay Yellow Pages for those who want them.
By the time we finished Breakfast we headed home because Henrietta was supposed to come early today.  She actually showed up after 1 PM so it wasn’t that early today.
After she left we took the cameras and took a tour of the resort in the golf cart and got lots of good pictures of our digs here.
We finally had a “windless” day to spread the OIL DRY under the motorhome to take care of the transmission fluid that’s been dripping for the last few weeks.  We also put a piece of plastic over it so the wind would have a hard time blowing it away this time.  We’ll recoat it again in a day or so to make sure we get it all up.  We’ve also got a cleaner to get up the residual that the powder won’t pick up.
Sharon decided that after yesterday when she hosed everything down that today she would do the windows on the motorhome.  She was at that for an hour or so and then came inside.
She had already decided that we would be having Steaks and Baked Potatoes for Supper tonight.  I could see the meat defrosting on the counter for most of the day.  For a person who doesn’t think much about a steak dinner, I thought the taste of the steaks was extraordinary.  We also had a small salad to round off the meal.  The “meat eater” was happy that I just went along.
We were content to just sit and absorb the tube for the rest of the night.  We managed to find enough to watch even though it wasn’t a particularly good night for TV.

We were off this morning to the Cottage Too for Breakfast.  We had another good little Breakfast for our money.
When we left the Cottage we headed toward Palm Springs to take some pictures.  As many times as we’ve been here in the valley we don’t have any pictures of downtown.  We only took one ride through on Palm Canyon Road and then took a left on Ramon Rd. and headed Back toward the resort.
We stopped at Jiffy Lube on the way home but there were a few cars there and the attendant said it would be about an hour wait.  We didn’t have the extra time to sit and wait today, so we left and headed home.
Henrietta didn’t make it over until after two today.  It only took her about 20 minutes to change my dressings and she was back out and on her way.
It Warmed up this afternoon so we mostly just went inside and sat in the air conditioning.  The next few days are going to be warmed still.  Somewhere around 90+ degrees.
Sharon was making Patty Melts for Supper tonight so I offered to fry the potatoes.  The Patty Melts were scrumptious and I fried the potatoes just perfectly so Supper was extremely good tonight.  I even dried the dishes tonight which was one of the first times so far.  I can’t stand up for long periods at a time.
There was absolutely nothing on TV tonight.  Sharon suggested that we go outside and watch the Palm Springs 75th Anniversary fireworks tonight.  So we sat out there waiting for 20 minutes before we remembered that the fireworks are tomorrow night.  Go figure.
So we were relegated to surfing the channels to see if we could find anything for the night.

The last 5 days have been devoted to the Boston Marathon bombing on the news.  Last night they finally caught the 2nd perpetrator.  He was wounded and bleeding but they finally got him into custody.
We decided that we would try the casino for Breakfast this morning, so we headed off to Agua Caliente as soon as we got ready.  We figured that monetarily we were paying about the same price no matter where we went, and the breakfast at the casino was so much better.  And it didn’t disappoint.  Although the casino is rather barren of guests and the dining room was almost empty.  The food was still good, however, and reasonably priced.  It actually cost us $28 to go to IHOP and donly $19 to go to the casino.
We took another ride through Palm Springs today to get a few more pictures of the downtown.  Today they were actually celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of Palm Springs.  There was quite the crowd in the downtown.
We stopped at Stater Brothers to pick up some groceries including a bunch of Chicken Wings for Supper.  Sharon put them immediately in the crock pot when we got home and they’ll be tender as the day is long by suppertime.
Later this afternoon Sharon took off for church while I printed the Newsletter and got it ready to mail out.  I sent out the digital version yesterday and we got a couple of e-mails back about our ordeal this winter.
We sat down with our Chicken Wings and Sharon stopped and picked up some Breadsticks on her way home to have with the chicken. We also had celery sticks to dip and gnaw on while we devoured the chicken.  Everything was quite good indeed.
Tonight was supposed to be “fireworks” night to celebrate Palm Springs 75th but we were listening to see if we could see or hear them and we got nothing.
We positioned ourselves in front of the TV for the night and found enough to watch to get us to 10 and bedtime.

Sunday, April 21, 2013

Sharon grabbed a quick shower this morning and headed for Subway to pick up a couple of Breakfast Sandwiches before 9AM. They’re two for the price of one if you get them before 9.  They turned out to be a lot more delicious than the ones we paid full price for last week.
After Breakfast we started getting the site ready for our departure.  We had to jack- up the golf cart and pile a bunch of stuff inside it and then cover it.  We got started before Henrietta arrived at about 12:30.
After she left Sharon took off with the laundry to get that done also today.  I finished up a couple of other things outside and then I came in to the cool motorhome.  It was about 90 out today and a little warm to stand out in the sun for long.
After Sharon got back with the laundry we finished up with the golf cart and then came inside to cool off.  While we were sitting here I came up with the idea to go to Applebee’s for Dinner tonight.  Sharon was happy not to have to cook anything for Supper.
We had a lovely Dinner of Baby Back Ribs and a Steak.  Of course Sharon was the one eating the steak.
By the time we got back home we were content to just sit and watch TV for the night.  We didn’t have much on and some of the shows were repeats, but we managed to struggle through another night.
