I APOLOGIZE FOR DELAY IN PUBLISHING THE REST OF THE JOURNAL FOR 2013. I WILL PUBLISH IT NOW FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE INTERESTED IN READING IT. WE HAD A LOT OF THINGS GOING ON LAST YEAR THAT PREVENTED ME FROM GETTING IT ONLINE, INCLUDING HAVING THE WEBSITE SCREWED UP SO I COULDN’T LOG INTO IT. IT HAS JUST BEEN RECTIFIED AND I AM HOPING THAT IT WON’T HAPPEN AGAIN.

After breakfast, a shower and putting a pork roast in the crock pot, I thought about bringing my Walkman to Bill so he could listen to Rush in the morning. So I’ll make 2 trips across town today, big deal.
When I walked in his room, Michelle was there working on the wound on top of his foot. I was very surprised to see such a hole. I haven’t seen it in 4 weeks. I guess I showed my shock, because at the therapy meeting later on, I was part of the discussion.
Leaving after my short visit, I had some shopping to do at Walmart. Got that done and home by 11:30. A short stay at home, returned me to see Bill at 1pm. He said he enjoyed listening to Rush that morning. I also brought the computer, so he could publish the Journal. Charles came for therapy and I went with. Charles and 2 others were in the therapy room and were teasing me about my reaction to seeing the wound. Later on I apologized to Bill for my reaction. I said I should have been more encouraging to him. He thought it was no big deal. Bill is doing great with therapy and they are thinking about discontinuing it. He can pretty much do it all on his own.
My pork roast smelled so good when I came in the motor home. I checked out our mail and then made potatoes, gravy and green beans to go with the pork. I will have a couple meals on that, it’s one of my favorites, not Bills.

Up too early again, 6:30 am. After coffee and shower, I talked myself into going for a walk. Once I stopped, it’s hard to get back in the routine again. Later, after lunch, I went to see Bill. Dr Bir had been in and is changing his wound Dr. We’re not sure why but we will find out in a couple days when he will go. His therapist came in to discuss what kind of therapy to do for his legs and walking. They don’t want him to put his full weight on his sore foot.
After leaving Bill, I went to Kmart to browse around. I enjoy going there to check out the deals and I found some I just couldn’t resist.
I had a repeat supper like last nights. The pork roast was just as good. Bill called to tell me he had tortilla crusted fish, fries, corn and black bean salad. To top it off, he had apple pie. He said he wasn’t very hungry but ate it all. At least he enjoys the food there during his long stay.
A little TV and reading, finished my evening.

Well I’m making it 2 days in a row, workout and walking. I guess I have to talk myself into it every day.
It’s a nice day out today, got shorts on again. After a salad for lunch, I left to see Bill. He found out that he will see a new wound Doctor at a wound clinic. They will make the appointment and I will take him. Medicare doesn’t cover the transportation. He is also down to one therapy session a day. They need him to walk on crutches so he doesn’t put weight on his bad foot. We waited for Dr Anderson to come for the last time but she didn’t show up before I left. So I guess he’s making some progress. I don’t think it will be long before they let him come home and be treated as an out-patient. We will both be happy when that day comes.
I had spaghetti, meatballs and a salad for supper. It was all very good. I worked a little on my Christmas stitch project, watched some TV and read.

I’m doing good, a workout and a walk. I’m waiting for a package from Iron Mountain with some items for my CPAP machine being sent to Catalina Spa. So after my Cherrios, I walked 1 ½ miles to Catalina Spa. My package wasn’t there yet but I had a good walk.
After lunch. I’m off to see Bill. Michelle, one of his wound care specialists, came in to clean his wound. I tried not to react because last time they joked about me at the meeting. They come in every day and are always positive about his healing. They have talked about sending him to another Dr at the wound care clinic and having a wound vacuum put on it, but he’s not ready for that yet. After his care, we went outside to the patio. We sat there for an hour or so, it was 75' and very relaxing. Now that the temps are in the upper 70's, it’s been nice to have our visits outside.
After coming home I read a bit and then had a steak, salad and green beans. I skipped the potato and sour cream this time. It was all great. After supper, I called my nephew, Mike, who is going through some hard times with cancer. He is very tough but needs all the love, prayers and encouraging from us all. The rest of the evening was TV and reading.

Did my workout and walked in shorts. Even the early mornings are warm now. Cheerio for breakfast, egg mcmuffin for lunch and off to see how Bill’s doing. He will not be seeing a new Dr at the wound clinic because they can’t get him in till the end of February. Can’t understand that. He won’t need them then. So he will continue with Dr Anderson. We are pleased with the progress, even if it’s slow. I brought the camera today because Michelle was going to clean his wound. We’ve been taking pictures of it every week. Today Michelle said maybe by the end of next week they will put the wound vacuum on. And then, a few days later....maybe he can come home. He will have the wound vac on for 3 days at a time. We spent the rest of our visit outside.
On my way home I stopped at Catalina Spa for my package and it was there this time. Chicken breast, salad and broccoli made up my supper tonight. I read the weekly tourist magazines and then TV before going to bed.

Up and did my workout and while eating my Cheerio, Joann called to see if I wanted to go for breakfast with them. I finished my Cheerio and went for a light breakfast. I couldn’t pass up getting out with friends.
After coming home, Bill calls to say his infection is back and he has to go on IV again and his IV pick in his shoulder is plugged. I have been doing good through this all but that made me come undone. When I got to Rehab to see Bill, I went directly to the nurses office, where two of his nurses where. I was crying and telling them I was not happy with the latest. He has the infection back, the pick is plugged and they have to send him back to Eisenhower or put the IV in his hand. I said more but I won’t go into it all. They knew I was upset. I told Bill what I did when I went into his room. A few minutes later, one of the nurses came and said ‘I don’t think they told you it was a light infection, not the same that you had.’ Well NO, they didn’t! Then the other nurse comes in and tries to flush out the IV pick and this time it cleared. So the day ended up somewhat ok. We are happy with his care there until this bump in the road. It’s a slow healing process and when we went backwards today, it was too much for me to handle.
I came home, went to 5 pm Mass, did a lot of praying, hoping things will improve. I picked up a KFC dinner and ate it along with a couple glasses of wine.

Joann called for breakfast again before I got to my Cheerio. This morning I had a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream. I stopped at Kmart for a few things after breakfast.
Bill called and said a nurse came in at 2am to start him on the new IV. He told her NO, to come back at 8am. She left and someone else came in at 8. Sometimes s— happens and just doesn’t quit. The pick was plugged again so they put an IV in the back of his hand. Dr Bir was in and said they still may have to send him back to Eisenhower. Every day I report what’s going on and the next day I have to correct it. After Bill took his shower, we went outside for some fresh air. The Super Bowl started at 3:30 and I was going to stay till the end of the 1st quarter but Bill was tired and falling asleep. So after the pre-game I left. I had a burger for supper and watched the game. It was quite the event, lights going out and all. Good job Ravens, wish the Packers could have been there. Oh well...
