We were on our way this morning about 9 and headed toward town.  Sharon drove the car separated this morning because she was stopping at the Quartzsite Snowbird Office to pick up our pins for this year.  I was headed toward the LP Gas place to pick up a load for the next two weeks or so.  We’re using less gas this year because we’re using a couple of portable heaters to keep us warm and toasty.
The Snowbird office didn’t open til 10 but it was already about 9:50 so we just waited for them to open.  I picked up the gas and then drove to an open area in town to wait for Sharon to hook the car up.  She arrived about 10 minutes after I did and we were shortly after that, on the road, and heading west again.
The next stop on the way to Desert Hot Springs was at Carl’s Jr. in Indio, for lunch as it was already noon.  The stop at Car;’s Jr./ has now become a tradition.
We also stopped at the Three Sisters Truck Wash to tidy up the outside of the motorhome before getting into the campground.  We thought the Truck Wash was a pretty good deal for $53.  They dried the whole thing and even washed the top for us.  Two things we didn’t get done last year at the Truck Wash in Indio, although that time was about $10 cheaper.
We gave Phil and Joyce Bach a call while we were waiting at the truck wash and found out that they were already at Thousand Trails.  While we were on the phone Terry and Jo-Anne Bertamini called us to see where we were.  We called them back as soon as we hung up and found that they would be in Bullhead City tonight.
Arriving at Catalina Spa and RV Resort (Our home park) it didn’t take long for us to get set up and ready for business.
I downloaded the new version of sitebuilder from Homestead and found it to be impossible to use.  This may be the end of my website @ www.goin-south.com unless I can figure out how it works.  At this point, I can’t even publish my Journal to the web to explain why it’s not there.  I called Homestead and went round and round with them for a half hour before they decided they couldn’t help me.  Well, KISS MY ASS.  I finally gave up on trying to publish today.
Instead I just sat around licking my wounds and moaning and groaning.  At least the TV was working again, and I consoled myself with that for the night.  Our shows will be coming on another hour earlier than usual so we’ll get Jay Leno at 8:30 at night.

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

Our first full day in the saddle here at Catalina.  The weather seems to be co-operating and it appears it’s going to be a beautiful day.  Although it’s not all that warm out today, at least the sun is shining.  It’s expected to get up into the 70's today.
By this afternoon it was time to go to the pool for a couple of hours, and we left to take a dip.  We were taken completely by surprise when Jo-Anne and Terry Bertamini showed up just after we got there.  They were home in Alberta, Canada and not due to arrive for a couple of days yet.  After that Daphne Garrett arrived for the afternoon.  We had a nice group to converse with.
We had Tator Tot Casserole for supper tonight.  It’s one of my favorite meals.  It was very good and really hit the spot.
After Supper we went to the Upper Clubhouse for the Karaoke tonight.  The room had about 20 people in it when we got there.  A few more showed up after we got there at 7:15.  We stayed for about an hour, but I wasn’t thrilled with people singing along with me out of key, so we came home early.
We settled in front of the TV and watched a couple of shows that I had taped for the night assuming we’d be gone all night.  It didn’t keep us up past 10 though.  We still managed to wiggle between the sheets at our usual time.

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

I was up early this morning, showered and dressed, and on the road to Rancho Mirage at 7:30, to a Dermatologist’s office.  I called Dr. Milligan’s office yesterday and they graciously made an appointment for me this morning.  I was supposed to make an appointment in a month after I had a small spot removed from the side of my nose.  I ran into construction right in front of his office, and it took me another 10 minutes to get there.  I still arrived on time and they took me right in.  I love it when a plan comes together.  My appointment was a 8:15 and I was back on the road and on the way home by 8:30.
By the time I got home Sharon was already out for her walk and missed me returning even though she walked the same way I came home.  We were like passing ships in the night.
After Breakfast this morning I attended the Open Computer Forum at the campground.  It goes on every Wednesday for 2½ hours.  I couldn’t stay long enough to get my problem solved, so I’ll have to come back again next week or find someone who can take care of it.
I had to leave the forum cause it was Taco Wednesday today at the VFW in Desert Hot Springs.  We go every week that we’re here so we couldn’t miss our first one this year.  We met Phil and Joyce Bach and terry and Jo-Anne Bertamini there and it was great seeing Daisy and Alice, the waitresses,  and even running into Paul and Kay, friends from Pahrump, Nevada  while we were there.
By the time we left the club it was seriously overcast and threatening rain for the rest of the day.  We were planning on going for a swim with Phil and Joyce at Catalina Spa and it was actually even getting a little nippy out.  Terry and Jo-Anne left for their lot at Outdoor Resorts to do a little sprucing up.  They’ll be checking in over there after Christmas.
We got back to Catalina and went to the pool even though it looked gruesome out.  We knew the water in the pool would be warm and toasty and it was.  Unfortunately Phil slipped on the steps going into the hot tub and fell on his back.  He was not a happy camper over this incident.  Apparently the steps have been slippery since they were painted in the Fall.  Sharon slipped in the pool and almost went underwater.  THAT would have been a catastrophe.
Later when we got home neither of us was hungry for Supper so we just had a sandwich of ground pickle and bologna.
We settled in front of the Telly for the night and both of us napped for a little while.  It didn’t matter cause whatever we were watching was a repeat anyway, and it certainly didn’t keep us up after our bedtime.

Thursday, December 30, 2010

It was quite chilly out this morning and after checking the forecast it seems like this will continue for at least a few days.  I watched Sharon as she took off on her walk this morning, but by the time she came back she was really hustling.  The temps are in the low 50's and not getting any better in the near future.
We stayed in the “house” pretty much all day today since I’ve already packed away all my winter clothes for this winter.  Although in a 36' motorhome they’re really not far away at any given time.  I guess I just refuse to “dress up” again.
We hadn’t completely hooked up the motorhome after our arrival, so today was going to be the day to connect the sewer and water lines.  I dressed up nice and warm and went out to do my chores.  We were actually pretty sheltered in the spot we were parked, so it really wasn’t that cold out.  But the wind continued to blow all day even playing havoc with our satellite dish.
We at all our meals at home today, including ground pickle and bologna for lunch and Fried Chicken Filets for supper.  Going out would have required us to turn the heat on in the car.
Terry and Jo-Anne stopped over this afternoon for awhile.  They were all dressed up in warm clothing and I offered them coffee while they were here.  Jo-Anne is still battling a cold she picked up at home when they were in Alberta.
We sat in front of the tube all day today but Sharon had to read a book at the same time.  She can’t “just” watch TV but I don’t have that problem.  Most of the time I have to explain the plots to her cause she’s not paying that much attention.
Later on tonight Jo-Anne and Terry called us and told us they were going to the pool tonight.  That didn’t sound like a real good idea even though the pool would be nice and warm.  We declined, and we don’t know if they really went or not.
We caught up on most of the stuff we had taped on the DVR tonight.  We even went to slumberland at the usual time.

Friday, December 31, 2010NEW YEAR’S EVE

We woke up today with plans made for the day and a tentative plan for tonight.  The weather was abominable today and it’s just plain cold.  The sun was shining but the air was in the 50's.
Corky Zimmermann ( a friend from Eagle River, WI) stopped over this morning on his walk.  We had quite the discussion about Verizon and tethering the phone to the computer.  It seems as though he has been successful at beating the system and he has been the first one I’ve heard of.
At noon we got ready to go to the Pak Inn for lunch today.  We had quite a group going.  Phil and Joyce have friends Irv and Linda coming and we are going with Terry and Jo-Anne.  Corky had mentioned that he was disappointed when he and Deb went over there this year.  But we were more than satisfied and the food seemed just like usual from last year.
After we left the Pak Inn we drove to Outdoor Resorts to see Terry and Jo-Anne’s lot that they just purchased.  It was very nice in a beautiful park.  Not something Sharon and I would be interested in, but to each his own.  We’ve seen too many parks fall apart and leave their members high and dry.
We came home and decided that it was going to be too cold today to go to the pool again.  As we sat down in front of the tube our eyelids got heavy and we settled in for a long winter’s nap.
Terry and Jo-Anne called us later and asked if we wanted to go out for pizza tonight.  We thought going to Rocky’s downtown would be a good idea.  So they picked us up in about a half hour and we were on our way.
After Rocky’s we all came back to our coach and spent the rest of the night just talking and watching Dick Clark on TV.  The “party” broke up just after midnight and into the New Year.

Saturday, January 1, 2011NEW YEAR’S DAY

It certainly looked like it was going to be another nippy day today and looks didn’t deceive.  Even though the sun came out we didn’t have warm weather today.  The temp stayed in the 50's all day today and it was not nice out.
I slept late this morning having gone to bed after midnight last night.  I rolled out about 7:30 and not full of vim and vigor either.  It felt more like molasses in January.  It was going to be tough getting the cars on the rails today.
I’ve been taping on the DVR every day and today would be a perfect day to catch up on them and then delete them off the DVR.
By noontime we were still looking at chilly weather  with the sun blazing away in the sky.  We’ve had this chill set in for a few days now.  Unless you stay indoors it requires long pants and a jacket.  I’m stayin’ indoors in shorts.
Later in the afternoon Sharon took off for church but she actually left early to do some grocery shopping beforehand.  I knew on the way home she’d be picking up KFC and it would be a Fried Chicken night for supper.  That would perk up my spirits.
When she got home we immediately sat down to Supper and when we finished we settled in for TV for the rest of the night.  There was not much on tonight tat was even mildly exciting.  After our usual episodes of Cops it was pretty much repeats for the rest of the night.

Sunday, January 2, 2011

I got up this morning with what seemed to be a cold coming on.  As the day progressed, it turned into a full blown cold.  I don’t do well with colds anymore, and this one seemed to be exponentially worse as the day went on.
By 1 PM we settled in front of the TV to watch the final Packder game this year.  With the Bears having won the division, the only way for the Packers to get into the Play-offs was yo beat the Bears in this game.  They had difficulty for 3 quarters and then came alive in the 4th.  Green Bay finally won and moved on into the Play-offs.  But without a running game, I don’t expect them to get very far.
We watched a couple of other games for the rest of the afternoon, but nothing really significant to our situation.
We had leftover Tater Tot Casserole for supper tonight, and it was still quite good.
By the time we settled in front of the TV for the night I was completely miserable with this cold.  At bedtime Sharon decided that she would sleep on the couch for the night.  That was fine until she woke me up with a blood curdling scream in the middle of the night.  She came back to bed with me but didn’t last very long.
