We've decided that we are going to stay the extra day here since it's already paid for anyway.  Last year we opted out of our free day and moved on after one day here.
After Breakfast Sharon wanted to go to Michael's Craft Store to pick up some wool yarn for her "military caps."  She hasn't had any luck so far and she barely found some today.  It wasn't the colors she wanted but she picked up a couple of skeins anyway.
We also stopped for some things at Wal-Mart and filled the gas tank on the car at the same time.  We got turned around when we left Wal-Mart and needed the GPS to find our way back to the highway.
After we got back home Sharon whipped up some Turkey Salad and we had sandwiches.  They were quite good indeed.
We both tried to nap after lunch but only one of us succeeded.  She was out cold til about 3 o'clock.  When she got up she wanted to know if we were still going to Dyer's B-B-Q tonight for supper.  Dyer's is one of our favorite eating places along the way, and they have delicious BBQ Beef, Pork, Ham, Ribs and Sausage.  And they did not disappoint again tonight.  Dinner was absolutely fabulous and we were more than satisfied, and actually took some home.
When we got home we settled in front of the Boob Tube and watched a couple of shows that were taped.
We watched until our usual time before we folded up the tents and put away the animals for the night.

Tuesday, December 7, 2010HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

We had a plan today to stop at Golden Corral to have their buffet for Breakfast but we failed miserably.  The restaurant that we called about the Breakfast only had it on Firday, Saturday and Sunday.  So we took off this morning looking for another one.  W finally had to settle for a Cracker Barrel which we enjoyed very much.
By the time we got home this morning the wind was whistling pretty good today.  Eventually we put the drivers-side-slide in for a couple of hours to protect the awning over the slide.  We didn't have much to do today so we just sat around and watched TV.  Suprisingly the wind was not affecting the Satellite TV.
We had ravioli for supper tonight.  It was from our friend Becky from back home.  It was quite good indeed with a little vino to chase them down.  We also had a small salad and Garlic Bread.  Yum, Yum.
We had a couple of our favorite shows on the telly tonight and it didn't take much to find enough to fill the night til 10.  And at 10 the both of us took a trip to slumberland for the night.  We'll be up early tomorrow to get on the road to Deming, NM.  But for now I can hear taps being played on my eyelids.

We were off on our longest driving day of the whole winter today.  We like to make the trip from Amarillo to Deming, NM in one day but it keeps getting harder and harder to do.  It's "only" 452 miles but it takes us all day to do it.
During the day our only stop was alongside the road for lunch and we were quickly back on our way again.
The day ended up pretty uneventful to say the least.  We rolled into the Little Vineyard RV Park about 4 o'clock having gained an hour crossing the timeline.
Between TX and NM.
The little Mrs. decided today was the day to open the windows and the door.  It was really quite nice out for a change.  I think the temp was in the middle 60's.
Neither of us was very hungry for supper after having a couple of Brewskis after our long day.  We just fended for ourselves tonight for supper and neither of us had anything elaborate.
We settled for our usual entertainment tonight as we plunked in front of the TV.  We now had to record at least an hour of extra TV because the programming ends at 9 now.  So I had a couple of episodes of Dirty Jobs that I watched when Sharon went to bed.  She always likes to take advantage of the time change by going to bed early and pretending she's up late.  I followed her at 10 and because she turned off the spaceheater it was cold in the bedroom.  Damn!!!

This would be a get-ready-to-go day today since we'll be leaving tomorrow for Casa Grande, AZ.  We got a leisurely start this morning as the only thing on our agenda was to go to the Si Señor Restaurant for lunch today.  We found it last year and the food was really good.  Apparently a good portion of the town also found it this past year as the place didn't have an empty table after we sat down.  The food and service did not disappoint again as everyhing was perfect.  Sharon had Stuffed Sopapillas and I had a Chimichanga.
After lunch we drove to a craft store that Sharon wanted to check out, but she didn't go in.  I guess it turned out to be something she wasn't interested in.  She's still looking for wool yarn for her "military caps."
When we got back home she took off with the laundry and I got about dumping the holding tanks and filling up our water.  It didn't take me as long as it took her, and she drove up just as I was finishing, so we hooked up the car while we were at it.  But it actually turned out to be unfortunate when Sharon wanted to cruise around K-Mart later on tonight.
Neither of us was very hungry for supper tonight so I decided it would be a PB&J night later on tonight.
We had plenty to watch on TV tonight so it wasn't a chore to get to 10 o'clock.  Neither of us made it past the bewitching hour however.

We were on our way this morning after a leisurely Breakfast about 9 o'clock.  We only had about 270 miles to go to our destination today and we were in no hurry to get there.
We got as far as Texas Canyon, a Rest Area about 20 miles inside Arizona, and I realized that my feet and ankles were swelling because I hadn't tied my shoes this morning.  It happens quite often since I broke my leg a couple of years ago.  The summer before that I had a vein taken out of my leg for heart surgery which I now attribute to the poor circulation.  Sharon took over the driving for about an hour so I could sit with my feet up and drain my legs.  It worked and I took over again just outside Tucson.
The traffic coming through Tucson wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  It's usually pretty hectic coming through town but today it wasn't nearly as bad as it had been in the past.  Sharon could have handled the driving without a problem.  Although Tucson has been doing construction in that area for the past couple of years so it may have alleviated the problem.
We arrived at our campground, Western Horizon at Casa Grande (Desert Shadows) at about 2 PM and managed to get into our site and set up.  I called Verizon to get our Broadband set up and found that our plan had been cancelled.  We had to go under a new plan which was quite a bit less adequate than what we were used to.  Oh well, we'll use that until we can find another plan that will take care of us.
Sharon surprised me with her appearance in shorts.  She's never the first, between us, to dress casual for the weather.  But today was so nice outside that she even convinced me to change my clothes.  She laughed when I came out.
W decided that we would go out for fish tonight for supper.  It was a toss-up between a Fish Sandwich from Burger King and a fish fry from IHOP.  The fish fry won out and it was very good.  Alaskan Polluck was their fish of choice.  We had 3 nice big pieces with fries and Cole Slaw.  It'll be jn the back of our minds for the next couple of months on Fridays.
We came back home and settled in front of the Tube for the rest of the night.  Sharon was reading George Bush's "Decision Points" while she watched TV tonight.  I got the book for Christmas from Brady and Nicole, while were home, and Sharon got into it 2 days ago in Deming.  I was in bed before her tonight, and she followed after I was asleep.  It had been an eventful day.

Saturday, December 11, 2010

This was going to be our first full day at Desert Shadows and it felt good to be where we were supposed to be, at least temporarily.  The weather for the next 5 days looks like it will be in the high 70's and sunny.
After Breakfast and a leisurely start, we went grocery shopping to the Fry's store up the street.  That was significant because of the "Fry's Card" we bought.  For $100 we got a card worth $100 in merchandise, anywhere and also 40¢ off on an unlimited number of gallons of gas.  That will work out quite well when we leave here and get back on the road.
For most of the rest of the day we sat and watched taped shows from the DVR.  We needed to catch up on some of the shows that were there to make room for some more.
We were having leftover Swedish Meatballs, for supper,  that Sharon took out of the freezer today.  The meatballs were accompanied by Mashed Potatoes and Corn to round out the meal.  It was quite good indeed.........again.
We finished out the night tonight still catching up on taped shows since Saturdays are notoriously bad for TV Anyway.  We did have enough entertainment to carry us through til 10 however.  By then it was time to head for the padded room.

Sunday, December 12, 2010

Sharon was off to church and shopping this morning almost as soon as she got up.  We had seasoned a rack of ribs last night for supper tonight and every time you open the refrigerator you can smell the seasoning.  And it smells darn good if you know what I mean.
Early this morning the roof on the Metrodome caved in because of the snowload on top of it.  The Viking game was the game that was supposed to be on satellite TV today, so I waited to see if they would switch to the Packer game in light of the Viking game being postponed until tomorrow night.  And surprisingly that's exactly what happened.  Unfortunately the Packers had a miserable showing today and lost to the Lions 7-3.  Detroit wasn't much better, and Aaron Rodgers got hurt today.
Sharon got back just after the game started, so we both sat and suffered through the whole thing. She picked up a few things for charity while she was out and looked for a couple of things for herself at the same time.  She's still looking for the wool yarn.
About 4:30 we took the ribs out of the oven having been in there for the past 3½ hours.  We also had Sweet Potato Fries and Garlic Bread for supper tonight.  We washed it all down with a couple of "nectars of the gods."  Adult beverages are always in order when it comes to ribs.  It was all very, very good indeed.
We had to surf the airwaves and run the recorder to get our usual fare on TV for the night.  Everything was screwed up because of the Football doubleheaders on TV today.  It took some doing but we managed until 10 o'clock.
