We awoke today knowing that the big silver bird with the blue tail would be taking my partner toward Iron Mountain and back home. We pretty much just stayed close to "home" today with Sharon getting herself ready to go and packing her one bag that she intended to take along.
By lunchtime she was ready to go and the rain started to fall which would plague us all the way to Ontario. We decided we would leave a little early and hopefully get a jump on the weather while we were at it. We were on the road by 3 and the rain was no help at all. We spotted at least 7 or 8 accidents on the road in the 74 miles we traveled. The rain was almost blinding at times, but not bad enough to get into an accident over. There were more accidents here than there would have been at home in a blizzard. I think the people out here drive with their heads up another body opening. Nobody ever slows down and they're always in a big hurry.
It took us about 2 hours to arrive in Ontario having been slowed down by the rain and traffic. Surprisingly none of the accidents slowed us down except for the "looky-lous" having to gawk at the involved cars.
Fortunately when we arrived at the Holiday Inn there was a Marie Calendars's next door. There wasn't much else in the neighborhood so having Marie Calendars's close would keep us from having to drive around in the rain and looking for something to eat.
Sharon had a Pork Tenderloin Dinner and I had Baby Back Ribs. I wasn't impressed with the ribs because there wasn't much meat on the bones, they were served with a store bought BBQ Sauce, probably Masterpiece, and half my plate was covered with Green Beans, and because I make them much better. Although they were very edible indeed. Sharon had no complaints about the Tenderloin, and neither of us complained about the Banana Split Pie that we had for dessert.
After Dinner we went back to the motel and waited for Jack Bauer and "24" to come on. It was the second installment of the first night's premiere. It was very good again and we were on the edge of our seats again tonight. Sharon nodded off about 10 and I stayed up until 11 watching CSI Miami. We needed to wake up early in the morning for her 6 AM flight.

At 3:45 we woke up to 3 different alarms that had been set. The phone, The alarm clock and the cell phone alarm all went off right on time and woke us both up immediately. We were ready and downstairs in time for the shuttle at 4:30. It would be taking her to the airport for her flight. I got in the car and headed for "home." There was no traffic and no rain all the way back this morning. I rolled in about 6 and headed for the recliner for a couple of hours.
By the time I got up the rain was falling again and it looked like it wasn't going to end anytime soon. I needed to make a trip to Wal-Mart today but I waited until after lunchtime hoping that the rain would hold off any customers that they would have. My theory proved correct as Wal-Mart wasn't very busy at all. Streets were very wet and intersections were flooded all the way to Palm Springs. And even after this stops for the night it is apparently not over yet. I picked up everything I needed at Wal-Mart except toilet chemical so I'll need to go for that tomorrow. I won't need it for about a week anyway so there's no hurry.
I'm still fighting this cold that I've been harboring for the past week but I think after I eat my supper and watch a little tube I'll go up for the Klub Karaoke tonight. After I got there, I realized that the group that had shown up tonight, was completely different than the one that was present last week. It is probably tough maintaining the same group when people are moving every two weeks. But it was a good time even though Sharon was not there.
I was home in enough time to catch a couple of shows on TV before I opened up the pup tent (1 person) and headed for the sleeping bag. It looks like I survived the first full day without the Mrs. I wasn't worried.

I got up this morning and started watching my Fox and Friends on the DVR. That's the only way you can watch it out here since it starts at 3 in the morning and is over at 6. I don't get up that early for anyone or anything. This morning was the morning after the Scott Brown Senate win in Massachusetts and the wires were really buzzing.
I just sat and watched TV this morning since I had nothing else to do today. By lunchtime I decided that I was going to have a Taco Wednesday anyway today and I drove in to Del Taco for a Shredded Beef Burrito and some Jalapeño Rings. The rings were quite hot and I had to toss them out, after eating only half of them, but the burrito was quite good.
After lunch the sky clouded up and started raining again. It rained quite hard sporadically over the next few hours. Later on this afternoon I decided I was going to go to the pool and soak in the hot tub for awhile.
I got a couple of phone calls from Sharon today but I didn't return them cause I'm still pissed at her for not calling me yesterday, when her plane landed at home. I thought I would just let her stew and wonder where I was and what I was doing. When I finally called her back tonight she didn't answer the phone, but called me right back. I couldn't leave a message cause her voicemail wasn't set up on the phone. In any event I let her know why I was not returning calls. Who knows if that will make a difference.
For Supper tonight I finally finished up the leftover Rigatoni's. I settled in for the night in front of the tube since there was most of my favorite shows on tonight. Unfortunately aside from last week when they were playing new shows, tonight was another night of re-runs. Bu even the re-runs were quite good and I taped a couple of shows on the odd channels to play at 8 when the regular programming was exhausted. So I was content to have entertainment to watch all night until the night fell and so did I.

The rain is still not giving up anytime soon. I got up this morning and it was still falling like there was no tomorrow. Man this weather has got to break pretty soon or I'm going to become a hermit just sitting in the motorhome and watching TV. I don't mind the watching TV part so much, but I'm not crazy about sitting inside all day long.
The DVR is working out so well for me cause I record Fox and Friends at 3 in the morning and then I can watch it when I get up at 6:30 or so. I'm so used to watching it at home that I miss it when I get out here since it comes on so early.
I got a call this morning from the little Mrs. apparently not wanting to make me mad again after the other day. I told her again that I didn't expect her to check in every day since that wasn't the point that I was trying to make in the discussion that finally took place.
I decided that I would cook myself up some Breakfast burritos this morning and got going while I listened to Rush on the radio at 9. The burritos were quite good and so was Rush and it took me the rest of the morning to get the kitchen cleaned up.
I actually did get one job done today after lunch and that was to take the garbage over to the dumpster. The rain had actually stopped at one point so I made the 200 yard trip to the garbage while it was stopped.
For most of the afternoon the rain kept falling so I decided that a couple of tapes that were waiting in the DVR would be just as entertaining as anything else I may have wanted to do.
By suppertime I debated cooking, take out or just plain going out for a meal tonight. I still didn't really feel like going anywhere since the rain puts a damper on anything constructive. By about 7, I settled on Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches for the night. I wasn't really that hungry anyway not having actually done anything today.
Tonight was Thursday and some of our favorite shows were on tonight. I never have a problem getting through Thursday nights even if we only have re-runs ons. I hung in there until 10 tonight still nursing the cold that has plagued me for the past week. Right now it's too late to do anything about it except just tough it out.

I got up this morning feeling at least as well as I have over the past week. I had appointed myself official checker of a couple of things that were pending.
The first was Manuel's Café up on the corner. I stopped off for Breakfast this morning intending to just have their cheapest Breakfast and report back to my cohorts and friends. It was Fried Potatoes topped with Scrambled Eggs and Cheese and Toast. It was $3.95 and not bad for a cheap little Breakfast. Next time I think I'll have Biscuits and Gravy with it.
After Breakfast I decided that I would make a trip over to Corky and Deb Zimmermann's just for a few minutes. We sat and visited for about a half hour and then I got back in the car and headed home. I guess we were all pretty much disgusted with the rain.
I also appointed myself to check out the Angus Cheeseburger in the store at Catalina so I decided to do that today also. It was actually a pretty good little chunk of meat for the $2.75 Combo. I also had a small bag of chips and a 12 oz. Diet Coke. A nice little lunch.
After lunch I had to go to Blair Station to pick up some holding tank chemical. And I wasn't disappointed with their prices. Man they have no compunction to bending you over and ramming it to ya. I bought the smallest bottle of chemical I could find and it was still $18.
When I came back home I decided that I would go to the pool today and do a little soaking. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the pool was still 90 degrees even though it was raining. There was a ton of people in the hot tub apparently not wanting to brave the rain in the pool. While I was at the Pool, Roy and Maryann asked if I wanted to go to the Elephant Bar with them tonight. I told them probably not, but if I changed my mind I would let them know.
I got home from the pool just in time to catch Jeopardy today. I debated with myself whether or not I would go to the VFW for a fish fry tonight and then I decided against it. I didn't really feel like going anywhere tonight or I would have gone with the Browns and Parents to the Elephant Bar.
I vegged in front of the TV for the rest of the night even though I had to surf to find something to watch. I'm still waiting for the original programming that I know is coming sometime this month. It seems to come later and later every year. Well it's not like I can do anything about it.

The sun started out this morning shining like there was no tomorrow. The rain has stopped for the time being at least. The clouds cleared off the surrounding mountains and revealed that the snow had come down to about 1500-1000 feet. It was quite the sight. So everything around us at this point is now snow-capped. A few years ago we had a very wet winter and had a subsequent butterfly hatch that followed in the spring. I'm only hoping we didn't have that much moisture this time.
I got a call from Phil and Joyce this morning with a CASINO REPORT from Yuma. Apparently the new "Q" casino is now serving a Breakfast Buffet for $5.99 and a twofer on Mondays and Tuesdays. That's quite good news since we'll be going down there in a couple of weeks and we do like those buffets. Not as a steady diet, but on occasion they're wonderful.
I decided that I was going to cook Breakfast for myself this morning and made up a couple of Scrambled Egg Sandwiches. I had them almost at lunchtime so it basically ruined my appetite for anything to eat at that time.
I was planning to go to the pool early today but I got involved in a movie and didn't get to go over there until about 3. I was only over there for about an hour but it was a nice retreat for even a short time.
Tonight I decided that I was going to McD's for a Burger tonight instead of cooking anything for myself. So I drove over to Desert Hot Springs and picked up my supper about 5 and then settled in for the night in front of the TV.
I got a call from Sharon tonight giving me an update on what she's been doing for the last couple of days. I hadn't talked to her since Friday night so she had a couple of things to update me on. Jess and Mike got Max baptized today and they had Stella's Birthday Party also. Sharon had picked up my mother and took her over to Jess's for the occasion. Apparently she was a little confused on who was getting what.
Sunday, January 24, 2010
I got up this morning and watched my regular Sunday morning political shows. I got to holler at the TV this morning without having to worry about waking Sharon up. And I DVRed the off channels so I got to watch them all.
I didn't feel like much of a Breakfast today even though it was Sunday and the day I usually make a big Breakfast for me and the Mrs. I did have some frozen waffles left in the freezer so I popped them into the toaster for myself. It wasn't a great Breakfast but at least it was something to eat to hold me over for a couple of hours.
By about 11 the Championship games in the NFL were starting and there would be two of them today. The Colts waited until after halftime before they overwhelmed the Jets and beat them.
I had lunch while I was watching the first game. Sharon had bought a can of Chicken and Sausage Gumbo by Progresso that I paired with Ritz crackers. The Gumbo was very good and I'm sure Sharon will buy it again.
I took off for the pool while the second Playoff game was in progress. I had more interest in the pool than I had in that game. In fact, I was hoping that the Vikings would get beaten by the Saints for the trip to the Super Bowl. I'm still bitter about Favre's escape from Green Bay. When I returned from the pool I was just in time to see the end of the game and my wish had come true. There was a lot of irony in the final outcome. Th last pass that Favre threw at Green Bay was an interception in a Championship game. It now seems that the last pass that he'll throw at Minnesota was an interception in a Championship game. Both teams lost their game.
After the game I decided to drive in to KFC and get my usual dose of Sunday Chicken for supper. Sharon is usually here and picks it up on her way home from church either on Saturday night or Sunday. I needed gas in the car for the trip to the Ontario Airport on Tuesday anyway, so it was no bother to drive in.
After Supper I settled in front of the TV tonight and managed to watch the wrap up of the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. It was on until 11 and I hung in there until the final curtain. I'll have a heads-up when the Olympics come on next month.
