The Sun was out this morning and it looked like it was going to be a fabulous day today.  Most of the morning are cool and this one was no different, but it looks like it will warm up today.
I started out the day today with a big Breakfast that I made for myself.  Bacon, Eggs, Hash Browns and Toast that Sharon declined.  She usually doesn’t have that Breakfast when I make it.  I can sometimes talk her into Pancakes and Sausage on occasion but Bacon and Eggs are another story.  In any event I had my Breakfast and it was very good and hit the usual spot.
Sharon started out her day by going for a walk down Langlois Road and around a couple of the RV Parks located near us.  She stopped by the office first and picked her pills that were waiting for her.  And since she walked right by our site on the road, she tossed her pills over the fence and into our “yard.”  She told me about it when she got back.
I skipped lunch today while Sharon made herself a huge salad.  I guess she’s on a diet for the next few days.  I’m on the famous “Seefood” Diet.
We decided that today had warmed up enough to go to the pool today so we took off for the pool about 2PM.  When we got there it was empty except for another couple who didn’t say a word to us, and left after a few minutes.  We stayed in the pool for a couple of hours and another guy showed up and went directly to the hot tub.  We didn’t say anything when he arrived, but when we got in the hot tub we couldn’t get a word in edgewise.  He talked until we left for home.
After we got back home, Sharon whipped up a modified Chicken Kiev with Chicken, Ham and Cheese for Supper tonight and it was quite tasty.  Afterwards she revealed it was an experiment that turned out good.
We positioned ourselves in front of the TV for the night tonight.  The repeats are still coming and will continue until all the awards shows are over.  I guess you have to want to watch the Liberals pat themselves on the back for the wonderful work they’re doing, in order to like all the repeat shows during Christmas and beyond.  Thank God for the cable non-network shows that you can watch instead.  We stayed up until 10:15 tonight before we caved.

We had a plan all worked out this morning.  We would be meeting with Phil and Joyce Bach from Martinez, California which is up in the Bay Area of San Francisco. Our plan was to meet at the Hibachi Grill for lunch at 1 PM today.  Phil and Joyce brought two couples with them and we picked up Henry and Arlene before heading over the highway to the restaurant about 15 miles away.
We arrived right on time at 1 PM and as we were parking we saw Phil and Joyce and their friends going into the restaurant.  We spent about 2 hours at the Grill talking and eating.  The food was just like we remembered it from two years ago.  There was too much to even taste a small sample of all of it, and all of it was very good.
There was one couple at the table Sam and Barbara who lost the roof on their motorhome just like we did a few years ago.  And their Insurance Company, Progressive, refused to pay for the loss.  They got their roof replaced for half the money that it cost us. Ours was over $7000.00 by the time everything was figured in, including renting a Park Model for a two week stay.
By the time we got home it was about 3:30 and almost too late to go to the pool for the afternoon.  We decided to opt out for today at least.  Besides our network TV was about to begin at that time anyway.
Needless to say we skipped Supper tonight.  After eating lunch so late today we had no appetite left to satisfy.
Our programs are starting slowly to come back on at night without the re-runs.  Apparently Hollywood is done patting themselves on the back for their wonderful work.  The awards shows might be at an end.
We stayed up until 10:30 before we closed off the lights and turned down the heat.

It’s Wednesday today and another trip to the VFW is on tap for the day. The Sun was out again today but it still wasn’t going to be very warm.  At best it was going to get  to 65 degrees, but in January the weather is always cool here in the desert.  The really warm days are few and far between.
In any event we picked up Henry and Arlene about 12:45 and headed off to the VFW Clubhouse.  The parking lot was full again today but today we fully expected the place to be full.  And we weren’t wrong.  Both Dining Rooms were filled almost to capacity even though we managed to find a place to sit.
We sat down and went through a couple of pitchers of beer before we ordered our food.  We waited until about 1 before we sent our order in to the kitchen, but we suspected that the waitress didn’t get it in because by 1:30 we still hadn’t been served.  Sharon checked on our order and the answer was that the cook ran out of cooked meat and had to whip up some more.  That really wasn’t really a problem for us since they hadn’t run out of beer yet.
I took a different tach today and ordered the Fish Taco which was a new item on the menu.  It turned out to be very good and I think I’ll order that again.  Everybody else ordered their usual today, mostly Taco Bowls, and we seemed to be the last people in the clubhouse again today.
By the time we got home Sharon was ready for a nap and commenced taking one.  She snoozed for most of the rest of the afternoon.
Bob Lowe from next door stopped over and asked me if we wanted to play dominoes tonight.  They had invited another couple and we would play 6 handed tonight.
We left for next door at 6:30 and played the fine game of Mexican Train for the next 2 and a half hours.  After we were done Neila had some snacks for us and we sat and talked for the next half hour.  It turns out that Vic and Peggy are True Irish Rovers.  They’re from Ireland, they live in Canada, but are headed back to Ireland again after the Winter.  They own houses in all three places.
After we came home we watched a couple of the shows that had taped tonight, and headed for the feathers for the night.

Sharon was up and off on her walk early this morning.  While she was gone the LP Gas guy called and said he could be over within the hour.  Sharon had called him before she left on her walk.  She actually got back before he arrived with the gas.
He informed me that they had a minimum purchase policy in effect which would cost us more money.  Apparently that’s the reason why we paid $4.33 a gallon for the gas.  But $4.33 was better than not having the gas.
We thought about going to the pool today but Sharon opted to read her book instead.  And by the time we really thought about it the time was around 2:45 and almost too late to go.  In any event I just sat by th TV until it was time for Supper today.
Sharon whipped up Rigatoni and Meatballs for our Dinner tonight.  She also made some Garlic Toast along with a Green Salad.  It was very good and a nice change of pace.
As we sat and watched TV tonight we dug into a bag of Cheetos together.  It seems like we just can’t eat enough at a sitting to carry us through the night anymore.  We’realways digging into a little bag of something it seems.
We hung in there tonight until about 10:15 before we had to give it up for the night and head for the feathers.

We were off at 9 this morning headed to the Cottage Too for Breakfast with Phil and Joyce.  They picked us up and we’ll meet Henry and Arlene at the restaurant.  When we arrived Henry and Arlene were already there and sitting at a table for 6.  We ordered, and as usual they forgot to bring Phil’s Biscuits and Gravy first.  It always takes a couple of visits before they finally bring it first.
After Breakfast, and on the way home, Phil took us on a visit to Catalina Spa and RV Resort.  It’s the Resort where we held a long-time (20 years) membership.  We gave it up a couple of years ago when they were proposing to make substantial changes to the Resort and would be raising the daily rate to stay there.  We felt that since we’d been members they had already raised the daily rate from $0 to $10 and we could only stay for two weeks at a time.  Since that time we’ve, been bouncing around from Coast to Coast, RPI and AOR Parks in the neighborhood.  There are about 12 parks within a mile here, unfortunately in the last couple of years they have all dropped out of the membership system.  So we rent by the month now.
We didn’t see any changes that make us regret having given up the membership.  Besides we’ll still be able to get in there at the beginning of March for two weeks for just marginally more than we would pay normally.
After we got home We talked about going to the pool since this was the nicest day that we’ve had since we’ve been here.  Sharon decided to read her book and I was just content to watch TV.
We had Pasties for Supper tonight.  They were leftover from the ones we had the other day.  Pasties are good anytime and these were no exception.
After Supper we settled in front of the TV for the night.  We were supposed to get a visit from a DirecTV Technician tonight and he showed up later.  He knew about as much as I did about the troubles we were having.  After he left we discussed how he didn’t help us one bit, and we were still without a fix for the TV.
We stayed up until about 10:15 tonight gazing at the idiot box.

Got ready to go this morning to Wal-Mart in Cathedral City across the highway toward Palm Springs.  We had a bunch of stuff to pick up and thought it wouldn’t take too long.  Obviously we were wrong.  We had no idea it was going to be so busy at the store.  The parking lot was full and that should have given us some kind of warning what it was going to be like inside.  The first thing, there were no electric scooters for the handicapped, so I had to wait for one.  After about 10 minutes someone returned one and I used that.  The shopping wasn’t so bad but checking out was murder.  Sharon was in line for what seemed to be an eternity.  I waited on a bench near the exit while she endured.  We finally escaped after about 25 minutes.
We had intended to go to Taco Bell for a quick lunch but it almost turned in to a Supper.  We didn’t get finished over there until about 2:30, but we were still happy we went.  The Grande Burrito and the Chips and Salsa were very good.
We came back home and contemplated going to the pool but it was a little nippy today.  We were both dressed in long pants today, and the wind that came up made it a little chilly.
We fended for ourselves for Dinner tonight.  I had some oatmeal and toast and Sharon had a Ham and Cheese Sandwich on a Brioche Bun.  It was all we could do to choke that down after our late lunch.
We sat down to TV tonight watching one of the playoff games for awhile and then surfing for the rest of the night.  There wasn’t much on tonight even though we were looking for something to watch.  We stayed up until about 10:30 before we finally caved.

Sunday, January 13, 2019

We would be just sitting around today and maybe going to the pool a little later on.
I got up with the idea that I would work on the website today and see if I could get it working right.  It took me a while before I realized that one page of the journal had not published right, and that was holding up the whole Journal from working.  As soon as I republished that single page everything was working perfectly.
Later on this afternoon we talked about going to the pool but decided against it.  It seems like it just doesn’t have the attraction to us that it had two years ago when we were last here.  I’m just glad we’re not paying the $700+ a month it would cost for us to be at Catalina Spa, our old campground.  Although their renovations are coming along nicely, without the use of the pool, it’s just not worth the price to stay there.  We will be able to get in there at the beginning of March under our Coast to Coast membership.  But we’ll only be there for two weeks and it’ll cost us $23 a day.  We have an excess batch of Coast to Coast points that we really need to use up, preferably this year, if we can.
We had burgers for Supper tonight.  It was nothing fancy but burgers on the grill and potato chips on the side.  We did have some cookies that Sharon purchased from Wal-Mart yesterday for dessert.  We didn’t have many dishes to do after Supper tonight because of the minimalist Supper we enjoyed.
We camped out in front of the boob tube for the night and finally watched a few taped programs until it was time to hit the hay.
