We were off this morning to the Golden Corral Restaurant to meet Jaycee Dale, from Iron Mountain, and her friend Rod, for Breakfast. They live out here most of the year now to get away from the cold and snow.
We arrived right at 9:30 and were greeted by Santa Claus at the door. After extending our merry wishes, I spotted Jaycee in the Dining Room and we headed in to their table.
We caught up on our conversation since we only seen her out here for the last few years. I guess we just never get around to seeing each other during the Summers.
It’s not unusual since the time we spend at home during the Summer seems to get shorter and shorter every year.
We spent about an hour and a half at the restaurant before we decided it was time to leave and head for home.
We got back from Golden Corral and Sharon took off with the laundry for a couple of hours. When she got back she whipped up a lovely Dinner of Cornish Game Hens, Red Potatoes, Green and Red Peppers and Garlic Bread. It was a very special meal that we washed down with a few Whiskey Old Fashioneds. It was all very, very good indeed.
For the rest of the night we relaxed in front of the boob tube and watched our regular shows even though they were all repeats.
This had been a very good day by anyone’s standards.
Tuesday, December 25, 2018 MERRY CHRISTMAS
Sharon was off to church this morning early so that we would have time to make it to Mesa today for Christmas Dinner. We were going to Dennis and Mary Ceshker’s today to celebrate the day. They had also invited their neighbors Bob and Jane to spend the day also.
Today was very unusual for us. There were no gifts and no decorations in the coach this year. We usually put up a little tree and garland around the slides, but this year we just didn’t seem to have the time to decorate. In the next few days we’ll be in Quartzsite and if we want something we’ll buy it there.
After church we got on the road almost immediately heading north toward Phoenix. It took us a little over an hour to locate and actually find their place. We had never been there before except for once and we came in the other way when we did. But the GPS in the phone took us right to their front door. After some great conversation we sat down to a lovely Baked Ham, Potato Salad, an oil and vinegar “cole slaw” type salad, and a fruit compote. It was a very nice spread finished up with homemade Apple Pie with Ice Cream.
We sat around again after Dinner for awhile before we decided it was time for us to leave. We had another 60+ minute drive to get back home again.
We got back home and it was still daylight out. It didn’t take long for darkness to fall however. And with the darkness come the network programming, which is pretty pathetic to say the least. It’s the season of repeats and we’re right in the middle of it.

We got up this morning with nothing to do and nobody to see. We had met our last obligation yesterday with Christmas Dinner at the Ceshkers. It wasn’t really an obligation but more of an invitation and acceptance. And we had a very good time as we always do with them.
Sharon was planning BBQed Chicken Legs for Supper tonight but she really didn’t have the BBQ sauce to pull it off, so she needed to go to the grocery store for the ingredients to the sauce. While she was gone I put the VCR back into its regular place under the DVR in its cabinet. Because of the way the DVR is hooked up to the TV the VCR/DVD may not work right. But at least we’re watching TV every day except for Jeopardy. Needless to say we’re still having problems recording Jeopardy even though we have no problems with any other programs.
After Sharon got back from the store she suggested a haircut for the MAN of the house and I just responded, “Yes, Dear”. So for the next hour we were in haircutting “mode.”
We could smell the Chicken Legs BBQing in the Crock Pot all afternoon. And they kept smelling better and better as the day went on. When we finally sat down to eat we were rewarded with the tenderest BBQed Chicken Legs in history. We had Fried Potatoes, an Oil and vinegar salad and Pistachio Dessert. We also each had a piece of Cheesecakethat Sharon had picked up at the store the other day.
Our night was consumed by the repeats of the networks after another call to DirecTV to find out why Jeopardy wasn’t recording. We didn’t get any satisfaction from them except they said they’d send us an email when it was fixed, and that’s what they told us last week. We don’t expect to hear from them this time either.

We had another day today with absolutely nothing to do. Although this was going to be a rather busy day since we’ll be moving into Quartzsite today for a few days. We need to dump our holding tanks and fill our water tank. We’ll also be picking up our chairs and tables that we’ve been using outside.
We took off to Wal-Mart to do some grocery shopping also today. I managed to get an electric cart that was only partially charged and had to leave it somewhere in the middle of the store. I told Sharon that I would be going back to the car which was now the farthest away from that crippled cart that it could be. It took Sharon another 45 minutes before she got done shopping and checked out. She said it was absolutely ridiculous the number of people in the store and how fast they were getting checked out. She finally went to the self-check out just to get out of there. She looked like she was having a low-sugar event by the time she got there.
We had planned to go to KFC for their buffet lunch today and when we left Wal-Mart we first stopped at Walgreens to pick up some eye gel for me, and then we headed off to KFC. We had a very nice lunch and we ate late enough so that we wouldn’t have to eat Supper tonight.
After lunch we headed for home to put away the groceries. We had everything perishable in a cooler with an ice pack and it took a while to get everything in its place.
Tonight we were up to our usual entertainment of TV including all the repeats. It kept us up until 10 before we gave it all up and headed for the feathers.

We answered a facetime phone call from Jessica today so that we could watch Max open his Birthday “presents” from us. It was really just some extras that Sharon picked up along the way. His real present is still at home.
Since we took care of all the essentials yesterday it was just a matter of hooking up and checking the lights between the car and the motorhome before we got on the road. We headed out the back way from Casa Grande remembering that the last time we went out this way we lost the car off the hitch. The safety cables kept it from careening off the road, but it damaged the back of the motorhome getting it stopped. Hopefully today we won’t have that same experience.
Our day was pretty uneventful except that we had to drive 3 miles east on I-10 to get something to eat this morning. We stopped at McDonald’s in Buckeye for our Breakfast this morning. We couldn’t find anything between Buckeye and Quartzsite so we had to drive backwards to get there.
After Breakfast we were non-stop on our way to Quartzsite and the Desert for the next couple of days. We stopped in town to fill up with gas to make sure our generator would run when we found our spot at Mile Marker 99, south of town. By the time we arrived It was evident that we’d be the only one there. We pulled in and got set up almost immediately.
We watched TV on the inverter until about 8PM and then turned on the generator to recharge the batteries. We left the generator run until about 10 and then turned it off for the night. Hopefully we’ll have enough power to run Sharon’s CPAP and the furnace all night. As it turned out everything was just fine and we had enough power left to start the generator again in the morning. I love it when a plan comes together.

We were off to Breakfast this morning at the restaurant in town. At this point I can’t remember the name of it but we’ve been there before. Their food is good but a little pricey compared to other places that we’ve been to. We got a nice Breakfast this morning and had enough fuel to start shopping.
Our first stop was the Tool Shed at the West end of town. It has changed quite a bit since the last time we were here. (2 years ago) They don’t have anywhere near the items that they had last time. The only thing I saw that I might have some interest in was a Miter Saw they had for $69. Other than that I didn’t see anything that I couldn’t live without.
Our second stop was at K-B Tools in Prospector’s Panarama across the street from Tyson’s Wells. I found a Ceramic Dalmation holding an LED Lantern that would look good with my hydrant in the front yard. But they wanted $22 for it and I just passed it by.
Sharon was off at the thrift store buying groceries while I was perusing the tools. She was bragging about all the stuff she got while I was wasting my time “looking.”
We didn’t take out my scooter so we were not into any long-term shopping today. I told Sharon we could take it out tomorrow and Monday if she wanted to spend some serious time looking around.
We left town and came back home. Sharon was planning on having Playmoor Burgers for Supper tonight. She told me that she wanted to have a burger on the grill for Supper. I suspected it wasn’t going to happen since the wind was blowing tonight, and the grill is almost impossible to keep lit in the wind. But she managed to keep the grill lit and we had our burgers along with homemade French Fries. It was quite good, indeed.
For the rest of the night we were on the generator charging up our batteries and watching TV. We let the Gen run until 10 to make sure we had enough battery for the rest of the night. We also headed off to the feathers at 10 for a long winter’s nap.
Sunday, December 30, 2018
We had our Breakfast this morning which was a couple of Breakfast Burritos that Sharon whipped up. They were quite good and just like the ones at McDonald’s except bigger.
We were going into town today for an extended shopping trip to the “Big City.” I got the scooter charged up and ready to go and we’ll be there until Sharon gets tired.
We left “home” about 10am and went straight to Prospector’s Panarama where I had found a ceramic Dalmation holding an LED lantern. I told Sharon it would look good next to our hydrant in our front yard at home. She got my word that the hydrant would be put out again this year before she bought it.
After that we finished up at the Panarama and headed over to Tyson’s Wells across the street. We didn’t find thing at Tyson’s Wells except a giant pancake spatula. When I make pancakes for myself I make one huge one instead of a bunch of small ones. The spatula will help me from breaking the pancake when I flip it.
We came back home in time for Sharon to get to church tonight. It was a 4 pm mass in town at Queen of Peace church. She brought a jar of cactus syrup with her when she got home.
We took off again almost immediately to go into town to have pizza at Silly Al’s on main street. It’s a tradition that we’ve been adhering to for the last number of years. We had a hard time finding a place to park outside the restaurant and inside the place was very loud. We were directed to a table in the bar section and there were a bunch of young guys in there that were creating most of the noise. Before we started eating, the group of young guys left and it quieted down quite a bit. The pizza was delicious as it usually is, and we couldn’t finish it either, which is usual. We brought the rest home and we’ll have for lunch some day in the future.
We got home to watch TV but we’re still having trouble with DirecTV and ready to switch over to Dish. We’ve pretty much had it with Direct.
We ran the generator all night tonight while watching TV in order to get the batteries charged for the night. We stayed up until 10:30 before caving to the pressure.
