We awoke this morning with a plan. We were going up to the corner restaurant and have their Breakfast Special and check that out first. We got rolling about 9 and stopped for Breakfast and it turned out to be quite good and reasonably priced, although the sign advertising the Special was taken down. We did manage to get our meals for the special price.
After Breakfast we took off for Lowe’s Hardware in Cathedral City to try to find some torsion springs. We didn’t have any luck at all finding the springs which surprised me greatly. We couldn’t find any torsion springs at all even with help from the Lowe’s guy.
We left there and headed for Cathedral Palms RV Resort on our next stop. We wanted to check it out for an outweek in case we need one. Our membership resorts in the immediate area seem to be going on the market and selling to the highest bidder just before they drop out of the system. This is not a good situation for next year. Cathedral Palms is an okay spot for a visit but it is a ways away from Catalina. It makes it inconvenient to drive back here every day just to swim. But if we plan to keep coming out here in the winter we’ll have to make arrangements somewhere.
By noon we were back at our camper just sitting and watching a little of American Pickers. It was a good way to take us up to pool time for the day.
When we left for the pool we knew that the Browns and Parents had arrived in the park today. They are the other stalwarts from Michigan that come here every year. We were at the pool until about 6 when we came home and settled in for Supper.
Sharon was making Tostadas tonight with leftover tortillas. They turned out very good and I’m sure will make another appearance this winter at some time. Hopefully we’ll have them again when she’s stuck on what to make.
Our night was taken up with the Telly trying to prove it was worth watching tonight, but it failed pretty miserably. If it wasn’t for the DVR it would have been a waste of time even to sit in front of it tonight. But the DVR carried us to the bewitching hour and a very good night.

Today was a “move” day. We were only going a mile down the road, but we were moving. We’ll spend the next week camped at Desert Pools Resort, also in Desert Hot Springs. By 11 o’clock we were moved and settled in. We expected to be held outside the campground until 11 since we weren’t Western Horizon members, but they let us in early.
After we were settled I told Sharon I had a hankerin’ for a Big Mac and Fries from McDonald’s. She informed me that we had to go into town anyway to pick up some stuff. So we were off to satisfy my craving almost immediately, and to pick up whatever we needed in town.
By the time we got back from town it was almost time to head over to Catalina to hit the swimming pool for a couple of hours. We generally always go back to Catalina when were staying at Desert Pools because we like the pool better. Besides all of our friends are there.
By the time we really got wrinkled up in the pool it was time to come home and do our usual game of Jeopardy and eat Supper. Neither of us was particularly hungry for Supper and Sharon was planning on doing leftover tonight anyway so we just fended for ourselves for our sustenance tonight.
We had a mix of new and old on TV for the night. When the new was on, we watched it, when the old was on, we watched tape. It worked out very nicely until it was time to drop the curtain and take the final bows. We even caught a bit of Craig Ferguson tonight, before the lights went out.

Another Taco Wednesday dawned today in the Golden West. It was also “patio sales” day in Desert Pools. That’s the day when you can put your crap outside your site and sell it to some other unsuspecting soul in the campground. Sharon decided she was going to incorporate patio sales with her walk this morning. She was gone for about 45 minutes and she came back with a purchase. Leave it to her not to let a good patio sale go to waste. While she was gone she called Corky and Deb to see if they wanted to go to Taco Wednesday today. They decided they would pass.
I started writing the Newsletter today for something to do while she was gone on her walk. Besides I have to start going on it pretty soon anyway. It’ll be due and people will be waiting for it by the end of the month.
Just before noon we stopped over to Catalina to ask Daphne Garrett if she was still going with us. I had to interrupt their computer class to ask her and she opted out also. Sharon and I were on our own and we left Catalina and headed out to the VFW. We arrived just before noon and the parking lot was overflowing to say the least. It didn’t seem exceptionally crowded inside the clubhouse, however.
By the time we got back home it was overcast and not a very good looking day for the pool. Usually we just go to the pool no matter what but today we decided to stay home and that brought on a couple of naps.
By Suppertime we were already fending for ourselves for something to eat. We hadn’t planned on having a regular meal anyway. We had some really good stuff including Rigatoni and Pulled Pork in the fridge just waiting to be eaten. I actually heard the Rigatoni calling to me and I answered the call.
After our snack/supper we settled in front of the TV with a couple of new shows tonight. But the two new shows that were on were quite distasteful and Sharon retreated to the bedroom to read a book instead. There’s more smut coming on earlier in the evening now than ever before. The People’s Choice award were also on tonight but I don’t watch those shows anyway. Hollywood liberals patting themselves on the back is not my idea of entertainment. So I just hung in there with my repeats and smutty shows for the night. They’ve got to start showing original programming pretty soon.

It was overcast and windy today as we started our day this morning. It wasn’t going to last all day according to the weather report, but it did start out looking quite gloomy.
We had called Terry and Jo-Ann Bertamini a couple of days ago and arranged to meet for lunch today and go to the Sizzler Restaurant in Cathedral City. We went to the Sizzler in Yucca Valley last year and it was a very nice buffet to say the least. I hope this one lives up to the reputation of last year’s place.
We didn’t have much to do this morning so Sharon just worked on her crossword puzzle, and I sat and watched TV until it was time to head out for lunch.
The crossword puzzle that Sharon was working on has been outside on a table for the last couple of days and it’s looking like it may get finished by the end of the day today.
By noon the weather had cleared up and the sun was out and the wind had died down. We left for Outdoor Resorts ab out 12:30 in plenty of time to get to Terry and Jo-Ann’s. We sat and talked about their visit with their kids and their trip to Disneyland. They had just sent them off on their return trip to Alberta at the end of last week. They had to drive them over to John Wayne Airport in Orange County for their flight out.
The lunch at Sizzler was a mild disappointment. While we really didn’t expect it to be as good as the one in Yucca Valley, it really wasn’t even close. The choice of food on the Endless Salad Bar was very limited and perhaps it’s because of the economy. We weren’t impressed with the selections available even though what was there, was very good.
After lunch we dropped Terry and Jo-Ann at their coach and headed home. It was time for the pool by the time we got here so we just got into our suits and drove over to Catalina. The pool was mildly busy by the time we arrived and we recognized Jeannie from Alberta, Terry and Jo-Ann’s friend and stopped and talked to her for awhile. She told us all about her problems dealing with the campground earlier this winter when she first returned.
Sharon and I stayed at the pool this afternoon until about 4:30 and we returned in time to catch our usual game of Jeopardy on tape.
After Jeopardy we each had a pulled pork sandwich for supper tonight. Neither of us was very hungry and that seemed to go down just perfectly.
Tonight on TV we had a couple of new shows to watch. It looks like original programming is starting to come back slowly. As long as it comes back, I can wait for a week or so. Sharon had brought her table inside tonight so she could finish her puzzle. I could hear her groaning in the background as she leaned over the table putting her pieces together. It was kind of funny listening to her but she finally finished up just before we went to bed for the night. I suppose she’ll be looking for another one over the next couple of days.

I was out of bed early this morning. I don’t usually get up at 5:15 but I made an exception today. For no other reason than I couldn’t sleep any more. So I was up for three hours before Sharon even thought about getting up. The coffee was made and I was wide awake by the time she rolled out.
She got up with a plan, and I told her my plan for the day. After her walk we would go into town and have a Fish Sandwich at Carl’s Jr. For lunch and then drive across the parking lot and do her plan. She wanted to do some grocery shopping today. We had plenty of time to do everything. In fact by the time we got home I was thinking nap. I had already been up for 7 hours and now I had a full stomach.
After a short nap taken by both of us, we got ourselves ready and drove over to Catalina and to the pool. The pool was half full with people soaking their sorry bones. Noodles were the norm and not the exception, and the pool was full of noodles.
We stayed at the pool soaking our sorry bones until about 5 and then we needed to get into the car and drive back home. That’s the only drawback in spending our outweek in the area.
Because we ate a late lunch there would be no formal Dinner tonight. We were on our own to find something to eat. Which is always never a problem since we almost always have leftovers to munch on.
New programming on the tube tonight was a pleasant surprise. I guess the networks have fooled around long enough. We had a new CSI New York and a new Blue Bloods on tonight. A couple of favorites that we always catch on Fridays. Sharon made an early exit to the bedroom tonight because of some congestion that she was experiencing since this afternoon. I guess the nap was too much for her. I, on the other hand, hung in there until after 10:30 before I shut down the electronics put away the antennas, and all the screens went blank. It had been another successful day without accomplishing much. Right up my alley.

We had absolutely nothing planned for the day but that didn’t last long. When Sharon got up she decided that she was going to do the laundry today. So she took off with the laundry and I stayed home. I used to go with her but since I broke my leg a couple of years ago she’d rather go by herself. So I comply by just staying home. I did the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen while she was gone.
The weather was a little chilly out today and Sharon decided she wasn’t going to the pool, so we just stayed home. Besides there were a couple of playoff games on today that kept us amused. We found out who the Packers will face next week IF they win tomorrow.
Sharon made us a little made up concoction of hers, that she invented last year, for Supper. It’s a Chicken Breast on a bed of Dressing, with Mashed Potatoes and gravy and a dish of Cranberry Sauce. It is really quite good. It’s almost like a mini-Thanksgiving.
We settled in front of the TV tonight for our usual fare even though Saturdays are notoriously bad for TV. And tonight was no different than the past Saturdays, without exception. But I guess you’ve got to take the Saturdays along with the rest of the week. We stayed up until 10:30 even though we had to surf to keep ourselves entertained.
Sunday, January 15, 2012
We had our Sunday all planned out today and it included staying close to home and my recliner. Sharon took off for church and I timed her return perfectly by cooking a big Breakfast. I told her to call me when she left the church to finish off the scrambled eggs on time. She called me when she was 3/4 of the way back so it wasn’t all ready when she got here.
We would be having Scrambled Eggs with Ham, Biscuits and Gravy, Bacon and Hash Browns. Fresh Coffee to wash it all down. She even picked up fresh Apple Fritters at the Chinese Bakery in case we needed dessert. We didn’t. We had more than enough for Breakfast and it was all very good. We saved the Fritters for later on today.
We were going to be glued in front of the Television today to watch the Packers playoff game with the New York Giants at 1:30 this afternoon. As the game turned out, we could have wasted our time doing something else today. We oped to stay away from the pool in favor of the game. Green Bay played the most miserable excuse for a professional football game I’ve ever seen. Dropped passes, poor tackling, a timeout called to allow the giants another touchdown, it was just a disaster from the beginning to the end. They were standing on the edge of the cliff and noone prevented them from falling over it.
By the time Supper rolled around the Fritters were looking pretty good. We wouldn’t be having a meal anyway so we both made ourselves a Deluxe Ham Sandwich and called it Supper.
There was absolutely nothing on TV tonight except the Golden Globe Awards and we never watch that crap. We had Avatar on the DVR so we watched that. It was quite the movie to say the least. I guess I never realized how high tech the whole thing was. I enjoyed it but I think it might have been too “spacey” for Sharon. She has a hard time getting into sci-fi.
After the movie we actually caught a couple of episodes of Cops before we called it a night.
