We had a full morning in store for us today and we were off to the Cottage Too for Breakfast early.  Apparently there were a lot of people who felt the same way as our first stop was crowded like we had never seen it before.  It took us a little longer to get our Breakfast this morning but it was good and it was worth waiting for.
We left the restaurant on our way to LaQuinta and my Chiropractor's office.  We arrived with 3 minutes to spare after a 30 minute drive.  We waited about 15 minutes before I could get in and get my treatment.  My back did feel better and she told me I had a rib out of alignment that she adjusted for me.
Our next stop was at Wal-Mart for Sharon to get her hair cut and also to pick up some doughnut holes among a few other things.  I waited in the parking lot listening to Rush while she was gone.  It was about a 45 minute wait.
On the way home we noticed the wind starting to pick up for the day.  By the time we got back it was howling pretty good.  Our weather page on the computer said it was going to last until 10 tonight.  Another day with wind.......fabulous.
We picked up the rest of our outside junk today including chairs, tables, mats and I also decided to put away all the sewer stuff and water hose.  That way the only thing left to pick up in the morning would be the electric cord.  By the time we were finished it was time for the pool, but the wind was blowing so hard at this time that we wondered if we should go.  But the pool won out over our good sense.
The water in the pool was nice and warm today even though the wind was trying it's best to cool it off.  Sharon and I were actually the only ones there for about 15 minutes before Roy and MaryAnn Parent stopped by.  We stayed for about an hour before we got in the hot tub and then went home.  We said our good-byes to the Parents and then left for the day.
"24" had a 2-hour special showing on tonight but I was worried about the wind and the dish.  Actually I was worried without cause as the wind was apparently blowing in the right direction tonight cause it wasn't a problem.  We watched the rest of the stuff we recorded on the off channels for the rest of the night until 10.  By 10 we were both pooped from a long day.  The bed was a welcome sight when we arrived there and it didn't take long for the curtains to come down.

We were off and running this morning by 8:15.  We wanted to get an early start but not necessarily this early.  We had intended to stop in Coachella anyway at Carl's Jr. to pick up Breakfast on the way.  We arrived without incident and about 20 minutes later we were back on the road again and climbing the mountain to the Chiriaco Summit.
At Desert Center we turned north onto Hwy 177 and were pleasantly surprised by the flowers and bushes in bloom along the way.  We even saw a couple of patches of Desert Lilies.  We had been on this road once before back in 1990 but didn't remember the specifics about it.  It was a pleasant trip until we got to our turn at Earp.  I was so turned around we had to stop and bring out the map to go the right way.  And entering Parker I was still turned around and almost made another wrong turn there.  I was not having a good day at this point.
The rest of the trip was a beautiful journey up Arizona 95 and through the mountains between Parker and Lake Havasu City.  We arrived at our campground without another incident.
We got set up and connected to everything and went inside to align the dish for our TV.  It was then that we discovered that the overhanging branches of a tree prevented our dish from getting a signal.  NICE!  We called the office and asked if we could move to the next site to us, which was free of trees, and they said yes.  So the next 20 minutes were spent moving all our stuff to the adjacent site.  There are trees all over this campground but they seem to be placed quite strategically so they're not a problem.  We were on the one site where it was a problem.  If it was going to happen, today would be the perfect day for it.
We had called Corky and Deb Zimmermann to let them know we were here and they called us back and left a message.  I returned their call and told them we'd stop over for a few minutes.  We had to go to the Post Office anyway so we wouldn't stop for long.  We were actually there from 2 til 5 partaking in the consumption of adult beverages. Needless to say we didn't make it to the Post Office today.  Oh well, we'll get there sometime tomorrow.
By the time we got home our TV for the night had already started and I didn't have the DVR set to record, so we had to wait until the shows came on again to the west networks.  We managed to see everything we wanted and it took us nicely to 10 PM.  Sharon was napping through most of the TV tonight but I stayed awake long enough to see it all.

I was up early as usual this morning and the wind continued to blow today, as it did for most of yesterday.  I did my Journal right away and then did a story about the earthquake in the Newsletter.  When Sharon got up she immediately got ready and announced she was going for the mail.  I wasn't ready to go so she took off by herself with the GPS.  By the time I got my shower over with she was already back with the mail.  It didn't seem like the Post Office would be that difficult to find, and I guess it wasn't.
Corky and Deb Zimmermann picked us up just after noon to go to the China Star Restaurant for lunch today.  We had arranged the lunch yesterday when we were over at their place.  The food at the China Star was excellent and we enjoyed our lunch very much.  I didn't get a chance to taste half the stuff that really looked good, but I certainly walked away with my stomach full.
After lunch they took us on the scenic tour of Lake Havasu City.  Although we had been here a couple of times before, we really hadn't seen any of the sights around here except for the London Bridge.  We rode around for about an hour and a half before Corky dropped us off at home.  It was the first time we had been on the island and we drove all the way up the hill looking for the Elks Club.  It was an interesting tour.
We got back home about 3:30 and sat down to watch some TV.  The wind was still blowing and the dish was sometimes spotty for the afternoon.  There really wasn't going to be anything on until after 5 anyway so we really didn't care.
The wind died down somewhat tonight so the dish was back producing quality programming again.  We had original programs on tonight until we went to bed at 10.  The DVR was busy recording most of it, so we could see it however instead of having to jump back and forth among channels.

We were hungry for another meal this morning so we decided to take one in at Golden Corral just down the road.  Their buffet was quite the price at $4.99.  Along with the great price we had a great Breakfast.
After Breakfast we headed down toward the London Bridge to take a few pictures and do a little shopping.  We had been to the Bridge several times but this time we were disappointed.  The commercial buildings and businesses are crowding the bridge and starting to cover up the only tourist attraction in Lake Havasu City.  A good number of businesses have closed, because of the economy, leaving empty buildings in their place.  They need to do something to remove the crowding and bring the bridge back out in the open.  Even the shopping is only minimal at this point since a lot of the businesses have closed.
We got back home and decided to rest our Breakfast when we got a call from Jack and Roseann Derlein.  They invited us over to their campground to have some adult beverages and a swim.  Corky and Deb Zimmermann were also there since they are in the same campground.  We got there about a half hour later and everybody was sitting around or in the pool, consuming spirits and eating nuts.  We stayed for a couple of hours or at least until we finished up our beer and then headed home.
It was Jeopardy time on TV and we sat down to play. We were also ready to plop down on a chair and gaze at the tube for the night.  We had a few of our favorites on tonight and it was no trouble to get us to 10 tonight.  And actually we both napped for a while tonight to stave off the effects of the nectar we had consumed.  I taped the interview with Dr. Dan Benishek that Sean Hannity had on tonight and we watched it just before we went to bed.  He's one of the persons running against our traitor Congressman.  The interview wasn't really much to look at.

The sun came out and it looked like the wind was gone for the day today.  It was going to be a scorcher today to say the least.
We had every intention of finishing out our plan for eating while we were here at Lake Havasu City, today.  We were pre-disposed to have lunch at Scotty's Chicken and Ribs on S. Palo Verd Rd. Which is just down the road from our campground.  We had a couple of coupons leftover from Golden Corral which we would drop off at Corky and Deb's on the way back home.
We left for Scotty's about 12:30 and ordering and eating took us about an hour or so.  The food was excellent and just as we remembered it was. .  We had ordered a Dinner of Ribs, and another of chicken, and divided it up and ate both. There was a ton of it however, and we took at least half of it home.  We'll have at least another lunch with the remainder.
On the way home we stopped to deliver the coupons and say our good-byes to he Zimmermann's and Derlein's and then continue on our way.  We needed to make a stop at Wal-Mart to pick up a few things for next week.
When we came back home Sharon decided she was going to catch up on the laundry and I had already decided that I was going to dump our holding tanks and get ready to leave for tomorrow.  I would wait until the sun almost went down however, since I didn't relish going out in the heat to do it.  And by the time I went out it was almost 20 degrees cooler.
Neither of us was interested in Supper tonight but we had picked up a seedless watermelon that we dove into tonight.  Sharon had carved it up and put it in a bowl so it was easier to eat than off individual pieces.
We settled in front of the tube for the night but Friday is always a night that doesn't have much to watch.  Luckily the History channel was running some shows that we hadn't seen before about the Presidents.  There was also a 2 hour special about the war of 1812.  That pretty much took us to the bewitching hour.
We would both be getting up early tomorrow, to mosey up the highway, on our way toward home.  So 10 o'clock came just in time to send us packing.

Saturday, April 10, 2010

We were off and running by 8:30 this morning.  We haven't been up and gone that early in years.  We wanted to make sure we got as far as Meteor Crater by this afternoon.
We had a little list of places that we might stop along the way just to say we've been there, but by the time we got to Yucca, Kingman and Flagstaff we had already been discouraged by the things on the list.  We were in Flagstaff searching for the "Lumberjack Muffler Man" to no avail.  We ended up on the campus of a University with no directions to find it.  We just set the GPS for Winslow and got the hell out of there.
We didn't have anything else on the list before Meteor Crater and we rolled into the Meteor Crater Campground about 2:30 and set up shop.  We thought about driving over to the Crater this afternoon and then heading out in the morning but decided against it after some thought.
Sharon heated up the Ribs and Chicken that was leftover from Scotty's for supper tonight and it was still pretty good.  The Ribs and Chicken were fine but the Fries were a little dry.  We also had beans from Scotty's, and they were pretty good.
Our regular showing of Cops tonight was pre-empted by NASCAR Racing so we decided to watch a taped movie instead.  The movie was called "No Country for Old Men" and it was weird as it's title.  It starred Tommy Lee Jones and Tess Harper but it was strange to say the least.  And weirdest of all it had no ending.  It just stopped and the credits started rolling.  We both were flabbergasted.
The movie had taken us nicely to 10 PM however, and we couldn't have wanted anything more, except to be entertained.  One out of two ain't bad.
We'll have a long day tomorrow again.  Hopefully we'll stop in Albuquerque for a couple of days.

Sunday, April 11, 2010

We were off to the Crater this morning at just after 9 and it was a few miles to get there from the campground.   It only took a few minutes and when we got there I was surprised to find not many people there.  However, after about an hour the parking lot started to fill up.
We sat through the movie which I thought was of very poor quality but very interesting.  Luckily the museum was filled with interactive exhibits which contained fantastic photography.  The crater is the best preserved meteor strike in the world.  It was quite interesting to observe the volume of the hole in which the meteor made.
We left the Crater and were back on the road again by 11, having gotten everything ready to go before we left for the crater.
We wanted to make it as far as Albuquerque today but knew we'd never get that far.  By the time we stopped we were in a little town called Milan which is near Grants, New Mexico.  We found a little campground called the Bar S  RV Park.  We settled in and got the TV working for the night.
Neither of us was very hungry early so Sharon waited awhile before she whipped up some Black Beans and Rice with Sausage.  We also had fresh baked Biscuits to go with the Dinner.  It was all quite good and it hit the spot.
CBS had TV all screwed up tonight with their coverage of the Masters Golf Tournament.  The shows we usually watch are all on CBS on Sundays.  But now all the programs come on an hour later since we crossed over a Time Line today.  So it didn't take a lot to get us to 10 tonight.
