I had a rotten night last night trying to sleep.  It seemed I could doze off for a while and then I would wake back up again.  I was up for good at about 5:15.  They came in and did my Bloodwork early today but I still wasn't ready for surgery.  I was kind of disappointed but I really don't want any more trouble after I leave here either.
Sharon rolled in about 9 all bright eyed and bushy-tailed.  She told me she had a lousy night too.  I guess we're just tired of dealing with these emergencies.  The staff in this hospital doesn't do anything quickly.  It seems to take an inordinate amount of time to get things done.  So for the rest of the day we just sat around and waited for the Coumadin to get out of my system.
Sharon went back home at about 6:30 tonight.  We didn't have anything to do except watch TV anyway.

Sharon came up early this morning and while she was here the doctor stopped in, and informed me officially that the surgery would be done today.  He didn't know what time, but probably around noon.  Shortly after noon they came and got me for the surgery.  I don't know how long it took but I was back before supper.  Sharon went home right after I got back since I wouldn't be much company anyway.  The campground in the hospital parking lot is a Godsend.  Sharon can go back home whenever she wants and only has a little way to walk.  This hospital complex is a pretty good sized one

We both had another lousy night last night, but Sharon did get a chance to sleep in this morning.  She came up to my room about 9 but she said she had a lousy night again.  I had to have my cast cut off this morning because of swelling in my foot.  Go figure, anything to delay this process.  I walked a couple of steps today with the people from rehab said I'd have to get a lot better before they release me.  I was walking with a walker which I was not comfortable with.
Sharon left to go home early again tonight.  She had to pick up some groceries for her Dinner tonight.  It looks like I'll have another dastardly evening.  There's not much sense in both of us sufferering.

I was right, I didn't sleep at all for another night.  At least my foot felt better this morning.  Man, this is the most difficult place to sleep that I've ever encountered.  The routine for me is always the same every day, although this  was the day that they took off the "already split" cast for good.
I was going to have a couple of sessions with rehab today getting a little practice with the walker and also the crutches.  I still have to decide which encumberence will be of my choosing.  I think a couple of things will happen today that will get me ready to vacate these premises.
I'll get fitted for my removable boot some time this afternoon and that will be pretty much the final arrangement before our exit.
Sharon has decided  that we'll stay here until I have the stitches removed and then we'll continue on.  So that will be an extra week here.
I've been prescribed Ambien for tonight so I think I'll take it and see if it helps me to sleep.  And as luck would have it, it worked fairly well. I slept from 10 until 2 in the morning, and then dozed off a couple of times after that.  So it seemed to have what I was looking for in sleep tablet.  Maybe I can finally get some rest after 5 days.  I'll drug myself up and then fall over into the feathers.

Friday, December 7, 2007   HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

I got up this morning fairly rested and feeling pretty good.  If all things go well today I should be getting out of here sometime this afternoon.  Today will literally drag by and I'll be very impatient.
By late afternoon I had done a couple of sessions of rehab and saw the doctor for a consult and indeed I would be released.  We got back to the motorhome about 5 and too late for our anniversary dinner that Sharon had planned for tonight.  I'm sure we'll have it some other night this week.
We just sat around watching TV and Sharon waited on me all night.  It'll be strange for awhile until I figure out what I can do for myself.  I'm sure Sharon doesn't like being a slave either.  We'll work it out sooner rather than later.
Before bed tonight I took my drugs and settled in to my own bed for a change.  It felt good and a great change of pace.

Last night was not as good as I had imagined it.  Sharon said I fell right to sleep but it didn't seem that way to me.  After a couple of hours it seemed I couldn't relax and get comfortable.  It must have been about that time that Sharon opted for the couch for the rest of the night.   Man, I hate it when that happens.
I got up and took an extra Ambien and slept until 9 this morning.  At least I know now that the Ambien works for sleeping.
Sharon headed out with the laundry since we haven't had a chance to do it since we left Iron Mountain.  She said she found a huge laundromat not far from here the other day.
She also went to church this afternoon while I was napping.
Neither of us was ready to have anything to eat for supper tonight.  Sharon was going to make Chicken Strips but neither of us felt like that for tonight so we'll have it some other time this week.
We sat and watched TV for the most of the night until 10 when we finally just gave up and went to bed.

The weather was a little foggy this morning when we got up.  It was actually a little nippy out also.  Our biggest thing today would be the Biscuits and Gravy with Scrambled Eggs and Sausage.  It sounded quite good when Sharon offered to make it.
We'll have the Packer game on at noon today and we're hoping GB wins another one.  As it tuned out today they beat the Raiders quite handily.  Football's a lot of fun when you're team is winning.
The biscuits and gravy held us right through supper.   Neither of us was really hungry for another meal.  Besides sitting around and holding your leg elevated isn't really much to work up an appetite from.  Sharon was working on her bags she donates to charity and that didn't require much energy either.
It looks like our main agenda will be taken up with TV for the night.  It doesn't feel like there's something to do when you're not feeling up to doing anything.  We finished up making family phone calls today.  We kept everyone pretty much up to date since we've been here so it didn't take long to update the rest.
