Monday, January 1, 2007HAPPY NEW YEAR

Even though I had only had a few drinks last night I woke up this morning at 10:00 o'clock not feeling well.  So I didn't "fight the feeling" and just laid around all day doing absolutely nothing except dry dishes.  I also sifted through the Sunday sale papers to see if I could find a 1GB Flash Drive.  I managed to find several in several different stores all for the same price......under $20. I'll have to stop over there in the next couple of days.
It looked as though Sharon had decided to accomplish the same thing as I had today.  Cooking and cleaning had been put on hold for a day and cross-stitch and Soduku had made their appearance.
The "side dish" of television was going to be digested all day if I had anything to say about it.  And between naps that's exactly what transpired.
We fended for ourselves for meals until supper came along and Sharon decided she was going to have a cheeseburger with a big slice of onion and to me that sounded good enough to have her make two.
But after that, I resumed my usual all day reclining position and settled in for TV again for the night.  This time something would be different, however.  I put the movie "Sideways" into the VCR and we proceeded to watch that for the night.  But as usual Sharon caved early after only an hour and I sat up and watched it til the end.  I hate to give up on a movie half-way through and then have to watch the whole thing later on.  This movie was supposed to have won awards but I didn't see where it should have.  Oh well what do I know.

The wind was blowing like a banshee last night but we woke up to a beautiful morning.  The sun was out and the sky was clear and it was just a lovely day.  Sharon started out the day by going for a walk and while she was gone I took my shower and got ready for the day.
Sharon decided that today should be the day to get our new coach batteries and put them in.  I couldn't disagree but when she decides these things I'm always the one who has to do the work.  Although I would have had to do it some time this week anyway, so why not today?
It had been 6 years since the batteries had been out of the compartment so the brackets were rusted and it took about an hour to get the old batteries out.  It wasn't that far to Napa to get the new ones ($172 dollars later) and I was back in a flash.
The new batteries went in pretty quickly and I was done before it was time for lunch.  I sure don't want to miss any of my meals, if you know what I mean.  Besides now I had done a job today and was free to do nothing the rest of the day.
We didn't have anything planned today so I settled in front of the telly for the afternoon.  I found a show on Discovery called "How its Made' that was really interesting.  I watched that for about an hour and then Sharon came inside from reading her paper out on the lawn chair.
We were going to have Fried Chicken Strips, Fried Potatoes and beets for supper tonight.  It was very good.  I love chicken strips.  And besides it's one of the things I suggested last week when she said she was stumped about cooking meals for supper.  I also notices that when we went shopping she picked up a couple of other things I suggested.  This could be a very good week for the stomach.
TV was atrocious again for the night so we watched another movie I had taped at home, "The Gangs of New York."  It was a pretty good movie and we both hung in there for the 3 hours that it was on.  But after Sharon read her paper online we were both off to the sleep chamber.  Besides it was 10 o'clock by this time and there was no reason to torture ourselves any longer.

Today is Taco Wednesday at the VFW so we called Jack and Rosann Derlein and asked if they wanted to go today but they didn't.  They don't think it's the good value that we do.  The only thing that's expensive is the beer.
We had to go to Catalina Spa anyway for our mail so we thought we'd take in the VFW as long as we were there.
First off this morning was the sales at individual sites that Sharon wanted take in.  There didn't seem to be much interest in the campground but those people that did have stuff out were paid a visit.  We couldn't find a thing we couldn't live without, however, but Sharon did get to do a partial walk this morning.
By 11:30 we headed out toward Catalina which is roughly 30 miles down the road.  I saw Paul and Kay Brown at the VFW and he told me that Catalina is charging a Day Use fee for all non-members to enter the park.  It appears we won't be seeing them around Catalina any more cause he said he won't pay it, and I certainly don't blame him.
The food at the VFW was it's usual fine cuisine, and of course the beer was it's usual expensive beverage.  It's a $20 bill to go there and eat now as compared to $15, including tip a couple of years ago.
We told Jack and Rosann that we'd stop by after the VFW and visit for awhile but they weren't home and couldn't be found.  We drove to the pool to see if they were there but no luck.
We turned our car eastward and headed home with our cache of mail.  We didn't have anything else on our agenda for the day so Sharon decided she would take a "bed" nap.  I know what that means and it ain't no NAP.  No matter cause I was just going to vegetate anyway.
Needless to say we both handled our own supper tonight.  I was still hungry from the VFW so I started eating as soon as I got home.  A couple of well-timed sandwiches held me over til bedtime.
We settled in front of the TV for the night.  It was mostly repeats and Sharon was cross-stitching for most of the night.  At 9 we checked e-mail and Sharon got on the Internet and tried to straighten out our Credit Union account.  It seems they're now using new security measures which screwed up our whole account.  She didn't get it straightened out tonight.

This was truly a lovely day by the time the sun came out.  Not that any of the other days have been that bad since we've been here, but this one just started out with a bang.  The sun was shining the wind was non-existent and it was just generally NICE.
Sharon took off this morning to pick up stamps at the Post Office here in Indio, one of our more favorite places.  That's why we refuse to have our mail delivered here anymore.  She stopped and picked up a paper and did a little grocery shopping while she was out.  She got back in time for lunch which we just rustled up for ourselves.  After lunch she called our Credit Union at home to straighten out our online account.  They added some additional security and screwed up our access.  Se had it straightened out in about 15 minutes.  We'll see if she can get in tonight.
We had planned on going to the pool this afternoon with friends coming over here, but they never showed up so we finally just went to the pool ourselves.  When we got back there was a message on our phone.  The water was so nice in the pool that we stayed for a couple of hours before the final soak in the hot tub.  We can't understand why there is hardly anyone in the pool when we're there.  We don't drive them off, they just don't show up.  Strange?
Sharon was making Orange Juice simmered Pork Chops for supper tonight.  We already had a couple of cocktails before we settled in for our meal.  The Pork Chops were excellent as she put a little too much pepper on them for her, but just right for me.  We also had peas and garlic/olive oil/parmesan noodles along with it.  Dinner was very, very good.
We settled in front of the tube for entertainment tonight.  There would be a new episode of CSI on tonight that we didn't want to miss.  Although they will probably run it again before the second half of the season begins.  Sharon attempted to get online with our Credit Union and succeeded.  I don't know why organizations try to fix problems that are non-existent and then screw everything up.  We both lasted until 10 at which time we folded up our tents and went to bed.

The wind started whistling last night and today it continued into the day. The Red, White and Blue Balloon Festival was supposed to begin today and go through the weekend but I don't think anybody is going to fly today.
We decided that tody would be an ideal day to do our laundry so after Sharon's walk and Breakfast we took off for the Laundromat about 2 miles away from our campground.  I also thought this would be an ideal day to look for my Flash drive with some of the money that Jess gave me for my Christmas present.
So I dropped Sharon off at the Laundromat, with the clothes, and then headed out to find Office Max.  It wasn't long before I found myself back at the Laundromat and folding clothes with Flash drive in hand.It took us about an hour to finish up the clothes and find a place for lunch.
We decided to try the Buffet at Rockafire Pizza today.  We found it when we went to Burgers and Beer one day.  They didn't have the items on the menu that they mentioned on their ad.  The pasta, soup and Garlic Bread were missing but the Chicken and Potatoes and the various Pizzas were very good.  We definitely had enough to fill us up anyway.
By the time we got back home the wind was now blowing pretty regular at 40-50 miles per hour.  The trash was flying all over the place on our ride back to the campground.  It also put the brakes on a visit to the pool today.  The pool would probably be warm but who wants to put up with the wind?
Sharon was happy when I told her I didn't want any supper tonight.  She never knows if she's cooking or not after we go out for lunch.  But today I was still full at suppertime.
We watched TV tonight and there were a couple of new shows just starting out their run.  I was hoping they'd stay on Friday night but I guess they are moving to Wednesday.  This will be the last time I'll probably see them.
We checked e-mail and Sharon read the paper before we both headed off for slumber land.  We had gotten pretty much accomplished today even though we fought the wind all day.

The Balloons were supposed to take off at 6:30 this morning and I was up at 7 watching the sky.  By 8:30 there still wasn't any action over in the Fantasy Springs Casino skies.  We can see the area very well from here.  We watched for most of the morning and nothing came up, so to speak.
By noon and after lunch we had decided to do some shopping today at Wal-Mart so we got in the car and headed out.  I was determined to take the wireless mouse back that I had purchased just after Christmas and the lines at the Service Counter had been so long that I opted out of trying to return it before.  As luck would have when we got there I was the only one in the line and got it returned immediately.  I love it when a plan comes together.
We picked up our groceries and headed back home.  We even bought a half gallon of Hurricane mix by Bacardi that we immediately had to taste as soon as we got home.  It was pretty good but quite sweet.  Something that a couple of drinks would be plenty to drink.  Of course a couple of drinks is unheard of in this house.
As soon as we got home Sharon started on supper which was going to be Pizza Casserole, which was also a request made last week.  It's been years since we've had it, and I've just had a hankerin' for it.  And as a matter of fact, it turned out absolutely delicious with a couple glasses of wine and a salad and Garlic Bread.
We settled in for off-network TV tonight concentrating on Court TV, Discovery and the History Channel.  In another week the regular shows will be back on again and we can watch some new shows at least until the end of April when we get home.
Neither of us lasted until the bewitching hour tonight.  Sharon went to bed at 8:30 claiming boring TV and I went an hour later cause I thought it was 10 without looking at my watch.  After I was in bed for fifteen minutes I rolled over and looked at the clock which said it was 9:45.  I guess I'll have to look at my watch after tonight and not judge the time by when Sharon goes to bed.

Sunday, January 7, 2007

I was up early and watching the skies over at Fantasy Casino, but nothing was flying this morning either.  I'm wondering now if they've cancelled the whole balloon festival this weekend.  The wind came up about mid-morning and they're not flying in that stuff.
Sharon was off to church this morning while I started cooking our Breakfast.  We were having Eggs, Bacon, Hash Browns and Toast.  By the time Sharon got back the food was ready and we sat down to eat.  It was an exceptional meal and Breakfast is  of my favorite meals, and this one was a beauty.
Afterward we both sat down in our usual positions, me in my recliner, and her on the couch, and we both drifted off to never, never land.
After waking up there was a show on Discovery called "Surgery saved my life" that I watched for the rest of the afternoon.  Having worked in medical x-ray when I was in the service, it piqued my interest to watch the problems and the surgeries.  I hung in there until Sharon woke up and then we watched it together.
We had leftover Pizza Casserole for supper tonight. And because it was a spaghetti type dish it was better the second time around.
We settled in front of the TV tonight with a couple of new shows on.  Sometimes shows are new for us cause we haven't watched them in the beginning of the year.  Cold Case was one of those shows.  We like the show but it comes on opposite one of our favorites.  Cold Case was on twice and we hadn't seen either one of them.
We both hung in there until 10 and then headed off to the feathers.  This was a definite "do nothing" day today but we didn't care.
